  • Summary: A battle on the streets of New York. The armies of the night number 60,000 strong, and tonight they're all after The Warriors - a street gang wrongly accused of killing a rival gang leader. The Warriors must make their way from one end of New York to their turf on the other side of the city. All that stands between The Warriors and their survival are 20 miles and thousands of street gang members. The army of gangs owns the streets and there's no turning back, they must fight for their lives and learn the meaning of loyalty as danger and uncertainty emerge from the city night. Based on the 1979 Paramount Pictures cult classic movie and developed by Rockstar Toronto, The Warriors expands the stylized cinematic journey of the film into a gritty interactive experience set in 1970s New York. 1. Not only is this game true to the classic cult film from 1979, it conjures the same sinister themes and underlying social tension in a way that's pretty darned smart for something called a game.
  2. 90
As fun as these excursions into petty theft and extortion might be, the essence of The Warriors is combat, and it's the first game in ages to truly nail it.
  3. Warriors succeeds because it wholly engrosses players. [Nov p.82]
  4. The single-player is a great experience that expands on the original storyline and allows a pain-free transition to the game's multiplayer.
  5. Although it's certainly not a masterpiece, The Warriors gets by on style, flair, variety, and simple fun. [Nov 2005, p.144]
  6. Rockstar takes the classic 80's movie and turns it into the most bone-crunching brawler on then console. Controversial at times, but a solid choice for fans.
  7. It's when the game is at its most GTA-like that it comes alive, conjuring up scenarios that take in whole city boroughs and throwing at you groups of adversaries and challenges you have to juggle on the fly… and then you get to a tediously engineered boss encounter and it all begins to get tiresome again. [Christmas 2005, p.109]

From Rockstar but not as large scale as their GTA series however just as enjoyable. So much fun beat em up which does justice to fleshing out the gangs from the movie. Done to a scale only Rockstar seem to produce it includes original cast members voices (those that are still alive). Played it straight through in 2 days but I was putting in long days as it was just so enjoyable. Anyone not scoring above an 8.5 wouldnt have a gaming clue let alone any real taste. Fans of the movie - what are you waiting for? Those who havent seen it should rent the movie NOW and buy the game immediately. Like the movie the game has fantastic pace. Sure its simple but it just does everything so well. Bravo Rockstar another classic. Expand

Not so much a video game based on a movie as much as it is an interactive companion to the movie. This is one of the most entertaining games I've played in recent years. I love the mini-games and the combat is as fun as it is brutal. Crappy graphics as usual (from Rockstar), but they excel at gameplay so that's easily forgiven. If you love the movie, you'll love the game. Expand

I don't know about the movie, because I've never seen it. But I rented this game and couldn't put it down. Great game, and I'm going to go rent the movie now. I loved this game. The graphics could use a little help, but the fighting is great, you actually feel the blows that you deal out. Expand

Nothing more than a GTA game using a movie license. Same first-gen PS2 graphics, same choppy animations, same over rated developer. Stay away unless you want to be bored with this game concept all over again like you were with the GTA games 4 sequels ago. Expand
