  1. In fact, if you have an Xbox and the money for this, I highly recommend using it to purchase "Kung Fu Chaos" instead, which adopts Melee's fighting system, but adds purpose and several gallons of hilarity to the mix... and is cheaper to boot.
  2. If you have to see what it's about for yourself, rent it before purchasing, and above all elseā€¦ find a friend.
  3. 55
It lacks the humor and charm of the original show, and even the new one for that matter. It gives you plenty of characters, but no real reason to prefer one to the other.
  4. You can call it sour grapes (for liking the old TMNT, not this new 2005 TMNT cartoon garbage), or you can just call it a very mediocre game.
  5. Kids - and by kids I mean really young kids - may get a kick out of taking control of a turtle, but that's about it. Slightly older children will find Mutant Melee too boring (it is challenging, however) and repetitive, and adults will find the lack of a technical aspect and responsive controls excruciating.
  6. An incredibly slapdash and barren game that has absolutely nothing to offer you beyond monotonous, almost-broken fighting mechanics, tiny environments, and a bunch of lame unlockables.
  7. The latest game is entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Melee and like the last two games, threatens to send the Turtles back into hibernation or wherever the hell they went last time.
  8. This brings shame to the name Turtles. Even to the Turtles die hard fans this will just be a stab in your heart.
  9. Not even cel-shaded reptiles can save a game cursed with tissue-thin design, weak AI, and repetitive gameplay. [June 2005, p.78]
  10. It's hard to find the fun in Mutant Melee, whether playing alone or with friends. [May 2005, p.54]
  11. What gets under your skin is that most of the combos are unblockable, and once you are caught in string of moves, you must wait until the move set is over before you can block or counter attack. This can be frustrating on both A.I. and human battles.
  12. 30
While the multiplayer options are moderately enjoyable, only the youngest of gamers will find themselves with any longevity.
  13. 20
This is some of the weakest, button-mashy gameplay you'll ever experience.
