Dillon is badly miscast; he's just too pretty for the part. He overemotes, trying to get to the heart of a character that doesn't really have one. Fitchner was entertaining as the grinning sociopath and there are a couple of nice touches between him and Faye Dunaway. Ulrich, Mantegna and the older men in the bar are wasted, as their characters are cliched, underwritten, or both. Dunaway herself is pretty good although she has to do a lot of scrambling to keep up with the plot twists. Spacey's direction is competent and nothing more, the cinematography the same, the set design more interesting than either of these. And the script seems to have been a stage play in a former life - not a particularly well-written one at that. Expand

  1. A workmanlike effort. It's not startling and it's not incompetent.

The character relationships are solid and there's blessed little in the way of smug, smart talk
  3. 50
Pretentious and show-offy, the noirish drama fairly reeks of film-student overkill.
