Critic Reviews

  1. 80
Playing like a video coffee table book displaying some of the man’s most notorious work.
  2. Reviewed by: Scott Foundas
Offers a fast, efficient and richly satisfying look at an iconoclastic artist and his groundbreaking work.
  3. 63
The movie is overwhelmingly positive. It would have helped if Araki's critics had more of a say.
  4. More of a sketch than a fully developed portrait.
  5. 60
Admittedly compulsive in both sex and shutterbuggery, Araki has long lived on the art-porn border, though this doc aims to show him as conversant in flowers, kitties, skies, and neorealist kids' faces as he is with bondage.
  6. Viewers are left to draw their own conclusions, which inevitably will be colored by individual reactions to unabashed frontal nudity.
  7. Illuminating, if not exactly edifying.
