  • Summary: From the team that brought you "YOU GOT SERVED" comes a young Hip-Hop dance battle movie for a new generation of dance. Battlefield America takes a steady look at the underbelly of the youth battle dance culture in Long Beach, California. Sean Lewis, a young, charismatic, successful businessman finds himself in the mix with a bunch of disheveled misfits Bad Boys, who have virtually no dance talent. Realizing his dilemma, Sean brings aboard a professional dance instructor to ease his responsibilities to these kids. Meanwhile, he finds himself falling for Sara, who runs the community center where the kids hangout and practice their moves. Although it's grotesque to see pre-teens stomping in underground warehouse-battle settings, at least Battlefield America's racial politics are interesting.

The editing in Battlefield America is super-speedy: Each shot lasts about three seconds, and then it's off.

If you're looking for a tough, streetwise film about urban kids who get together to enter a national hip-hop dance competition, Battlefield America is not your movie.

Houston does his best with an unlikable character, and the young actors are appealing enough to keep us watching. The movie itself, however, is a mess.

There's likely an audience for the cloying and dizzying hip-hop dance flick Battlefield America, but even the most forgiving viewers may feel like they've been underestimated - and underserved.

A picture so thoroughly generic as to suggest a contraption assembled from spare parts with the aid of a how-to manual.

The set-up, and indeed the entire film, reeks of yawn-inducing boilerplate plotting.

Movies such as Battlefield America, are all about the dance. Understand that before you view the movie. The acting is going to suck. But, the dance sequences should be ferry good. I didn't think seeing little kids in fatigues was grotesque, as s a movie critic stated. It is a costume for the performance. It is all about the dancing. I thought the camera shots were very fast, and could have been done much better. Remember, it's about the dance. Collapse
