This is a sweet, sentimental film with a wonderful cast. John Corbett gives one of his best & most animated performances. Patty Duke, in a dual role, lights up the screen, just as she did 40 years ago in "The Miracle Worker" and "Valley of the Dolls". Welcome back to the big screen Patty. If you're a theater lover, struggling actor or wanabee writer you'll like this film. Amy Smart is a joy to watch & the mushy ending makes it all worthwhile. Expand

An old-fashioned movie. With cliches, formula, and predictablity. So, what is wrong with that if the people making it add a bit of life, passion, and energy? Life is a path and you can do only two things: stop or put one foot in front of the other until you get to where ever there is. Movies are our myths, they help us define our exisitance. In real life, I have yet to see a car explode or run into a ninja, a CIA hit man, or a alien. I have met many folks who make personally couragous choices with the help of friends, and by doing so they grow in humanity, compassion, and power. A movie that celebrates this is to be treasured, even if it is cliched, formulaic, and predictable. Expand

In a lifetime of working in theatre, film and television (writer-director-producer) as well as working as a television critic for trade paper Radio-TV Daily in the late 1950's, this is certainly the most dishonest and stupid little film you could possibly imagine. How it got financed is beyond me. The idea of a total amateur being cast as the lead in Cyrano would have had the entire cast in open revolt. If it had all been part of some dream sequence cooked up in the brain of a shy young man, but other than that it's a total loser. It's sweet that certain viewers may have enjoyed (to some degree) its attempt at sweetness and lovey-dovey backstage views, but it's all an insult to the actual craft and people involved. Expand

Finally it becomes clear that Mr. Corley's film is meant to be a tribute to the love of theater. It has just been posing as the story of one man's finding himself.
  2. This heartfelt valentine to the stage leaves no cliché unturned. If it has anything to recommend, it is the loving portrayal of the camaraderie of those who participate in art for art's sake who, to quote Cyrano, "work without one thought of gain or fame."

Awash in the obvious and sports a patently predictable outcome. Somewhere, Stanislavsky is shrieking as well.
