Visually stunning. Massive waves seemlessly shown from under the water and above. Plot was silly, but visuals well worth it. Can see it as an IMAX covering the actual competition.

I really really enjoyed this movie. I love extreme sports, this had excellent surfing scenes, and actually a decent story that made it totally believable.

Blue Crush is a hybrid cross between a movie and a documentary. The producers decided to go movie, and as such, the storyline is just so-so and predictable. The acting is at best below average. But if you can overcome these negatives, the world of surfing is presented with its inherent beauty and always lurking danger. It also focuses on women who would go without the finer things in life just to make surfing their dream. These women can barely make ends meet at the end of the month to pay their bills. The cinematography is simply breathtaking and demonstrates why the beaches of Hawaii are so beautiful. It is a movie worth seeing that will hold your attention. Expand

It was all right. After reading all of the reviews, I felt like I had pretty much seen the movie. There wasn't much new for me to know. Kate Bosworth is really cool, though. I don't like Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake is awesome, but her character was barely there. But it was beautifully made and, unlike many others, I liked the romance.

Cliche City. Kind of a dumb-ass story. But a visual masterpiece. Surfing in the thunderous waves to "Youth of a Nation" was an inspired metaphor for the situation of today's kids. The climax surfing scene, while straight out of the formula book, is touching nonetheless.

This movie is great. I love surfing, and the fact that they had some of the world's best WOMEN surfers out ther like Rochelle Ballard and Kate Skarratt was fantastic. Women can dominate and that's what this movie is about.

The water shots were totally awesome. the land drama was so-so but quite ok. sort of realistic, most probably because the story came from a surfing article. what most people think is the movie is a chick that could surf and over comes the odds, but really its saying you should live your dreams. for both genders, man and woman alike.

It's the ultimate "okay" movie. It tries to be something it isn't and it doesn't really succeed.

"Blue Crush" works because you believe these three girls could exist. They have jobs. And the screenplay devotes an adequate amount of time to their occupation as hotel maids. It's this detail that elevates "Blue Crush" from "a surfing movie" to "a movie with surfing in it". The water photography is exciting but what's really satisfying is the versimilitude of watching four girls in a beat-up, old car navigating their way through the North Shore roads. Aside from the sometimes groan-inducing but unavoidable romance sub-plot, director John Stockwell has served up another winner. Expand

Opening scenes are brash and thunderous. The lead actress is winning and the movie delivers what one would expect from a formualic sports movie. Still, surfing woman was a new idea at the time of its release, and the movie's refusal to culminate in total triumph for its heroine was refreshing. Also welcome was its refusal to vilify her rivals.

  1. If you can simply get lost in the crushing splendor of the waves themselves, the script might not leave you so seasick.
  2. Unless you count "Lilo & Stitch," this is the first of several surfer-girl movies out of the gate, and it seems clear that in the rush to put it out there, a script was the last thing on Universal's mind.
  3. That's what Blue Crush is getting at: girls going for the gold in a sport that's traditionally been the domain of men.
