Almost at the close of her father's mainstream career before his descent into obscurity, Jennifer Lynch debuted with a picture that seems strangely familiar

A movie filled with irony; So, good; I still remember it today.

This movie goes places that most filmmakers don't want to go. I'll let you decide whether it's a good or bad thing. It is truly a weird and very memorable film with excellent performances from Fenn and especially Julian Sands.

Bad in an audacious sort of way. Convincing portrayal by Sands of the obsessed mind. The story goes on to depict physically what Hollywood has been trying to do to us mentally for decades. And it's not a pretty sight.

A gruesome tale of obsessive love and mutilation, it's less a work of art, however, than a luridly stylish expression of female self-loathing...A prettied-up snuff movie.
  2. Just awful. But uniquely awful -- awful in a way that might just attract a cult audience. [3 Sept 1993]

Even if the script delivered, the film would frankly be overwhelmed by the volume of noteriety that has attended it. [3 Sept 1993]
