First-time feature directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor play with speed and sound to effectively recreate the buzz of an over-caffeinated all-nighter, delivering one of the year’s best pure junk-food entertainments.
Crank is an efficient, witty, junkyard dog of an action movie for its first hour. Unfortunately, the script runs out of gas before the hero does. While it's cooking, though, it's violently preposterous fun.
Coole Story. Einer meiner Lieblingsschauspieler. 10/10 * Bin Positiv überrascht. Verstehe die anderen Bewertungen nicht so ganz. Sind viel zu niedrig.
Sehenswerter Film auf jeden Fall.
This movie is almost enlightening. Everything is done in absolute excess - the action is not only fast-paced and non-stop, but also absurd to the point of laughter. Action flick tropes are exploited to the point of parody, and calling the intended humor "blue" or "dark" would be an understatement - jokes aren't just in poor taste, they're completely taboo. Add another brilliantly deadpan performance by Jason Statham and frantic, almost schizophrenic editing, and it's a befuddling, brilliant mess of movie bliss.
The 2006 summer movie season went out with a reasonable bang courtesy of Crank, a jacked-up, unapologetically mindless bit of ADD-prescribed escapism that more or less delivers on a nifty premise.
The movie is cranked up somewhere between stylish and proudly stupid, dusted with sunniness from Amy Smart (as Chev's sleepy girlfriend) -- and guaranteed to be out of your system by the time the lights come up.
Videogamers who've been itching for "Grand Theft Auto: The Movie" can tide themselves over in the meantime with Crank, a down-and-dirty actioner that follows a rugged antihero trying to outrun death by keeping his adrenaline flowing.
One of the greatest Jason Statham movies ever!!! The concept is brilliant, just staying alive from a poison by making your heart go faster and your adrenaline pumping. There needs to be more movies like this.
+Basically its Gta the movie
+Excellent cast elevate the weak screenplay
+Great sense of physically moving from location to location with Chelios
+Action sequences have a great deal of fun with the concept
-Ridiculous 'story'
-The film never fully commits in tone and so borders on parody
Crank at its best is a guilty pleasure that ALMOST becomes the classic action film it wants to be but just misses the bar by a few inches.
From start to finish 'Crank' is a huge and messy joke that could have been told by a disruptive teenager to his closest troubled friends. Writing a structured critic about such a poor movie is a total prowess. I could not resist to make a list of its numerous flaws...
Filming process and camera angles are twisted and drafty, colours (in addition to lighting, calibration and contrasts) are more than ugly, dialogues are dull and predictable, characters are not developped at all, fight scenes are terrible, 'bastard' is the closest word I found to describe the overall pace of this film, all characters must share a small group of neurons between them, the plot is based on adrenaline and the scenarists don't know anything about this hormone, Statham beats each and every characters without any difficulty, his body still works after all the crap he does and takes (including bullets), driving scenes can actually cause vomiting (and there are a lot of those), the editing is disgusting, every woman present in 'Crank' was hired to showcase her body, blood scenes are awful, the movie doesn't hide at all its marketing principles (and therefore shows a lot of advertising especially when the 'hero' enters shops), we can clearly see the use of green screens in many shots, bad guys are boring, overall acting is hardly decent, some scenes are iconic by their infinite stupidity, and it is a true miracle Statham's carrier didn't stop right after that release. Racism is the only flaw missing to qualify this movie of 'worst of human history'. 'Crank' isn't even agreable to watch while getting drunk and high with your dearest friends (unless if you aim at a major bad trip). Worst of it all : they shot a second movie three years later !
The one and only good point I found is that music is great. It still could have been a bit better if they didn't stop the good tracks too early every time.
According to me 'Crank' is definitely worst than Uwe Boll's movies. Stay away from it unless you have a lot of neurones to lose or if you want to experience hangover symptoms without any substance consumption.
Certainly one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life. Jason Statham is terrible in this film and the film really delivers nothing good. Pile of crap basically so avoid CRANK.
