The rest of it is trash American culture at its most disgusting. The so-called plot enshrines sick and irrational jealousy as some kind of norm instead of a disease, lies and dishonesty the only life strategy, yelling, emoting and washing dirty linen in public as acceptable. And why is the father of every teenage daughter portrayed as foaming at the mouth at the first sign of his girl's sexuality. Sorry, but real, matyre people do not act like this and pretending this is reasonable behavior does a disservice to everyone. The only wise characters are the kids, despite the fact that any moron would know that they are clueless about the subject matter. With role models like these, no wonder our young people are confused and incapable of forming decent relationships. This film does not even cut it as a guilty pleasure, because the plot is absurd. Antidote to this incessant garbage for all Americans: Read Radical Honesty: Transforming Your Life By Telling the Truth. End of rant. Expand

Lame. Had such high hopes. Gave up after 15 minutes. Its mindless...even with Ryan Gosling, its just falters. Relies too much on Steve Carell. Tries to be the next American beauty but ends up as a DVD bin box discount. Bypass this load of rubbish.

It failed both as a movie and as a comedy, as a comedy it failed in the sense that... well... it just wasn't funny.
As a movie, i didn't relate to any of the characters and especially their relationships that include a 13 year old boy who's in love with a 17 year old teenager and his babysitter (a relationship his father actually encourages him to pursue at some point), the same babysitter who is in love with the 40 year old father of the boy.
On a totally different subject, the movie was also absurd, I can never imagine that a self-respecting guy (played very questionably by Ryan Gosling), who goes to bars with the purpose of sleeping with different women on a daily basis, would decide for no apparent reason to take a complete stranger and a person who creates the impression of a total screw-up under his wing.
The Emma-Ryan relationship starts only after a long background featuring a relationship of her and her boyfriend who she think is supposed to propose for no apparent reason. Then after he doesnâ
