This is my favorite movie. The music is really great, the dance is amazing and the story is original and very beautiful. I love the way Baby and Johnny look like to each other, it's true. What great actors !

Sappy. If adolescense is anything like this movie, we can start to understand the phenomena of teen suicide. The dancing tries to be both lusty and innocent, and maybe it is, but the two cancel each other out. Unfair to Swayze - makes him look like a dork, and Grey remains cute, but in a nauseating sort of way. I felt like Alex in Clockwork Orange forced to watch this movie that would turn me off of women. Truth is, I know underlying personality problems are indicated, but I hate this film. Exceptional disgust wells up from deep within me, laced with rage as I look into this movie and see nothing looking back but the obnoxious moronic hell of my youth. But that's just me. Expand

This film made me wanting to become a screenwriter my entire childhood and teenage years. I would like to know how can I contact Eleanor Bergstein. "Dirty Dancing" is absolutely AMAZING! I loved it since I was 5 years old! (Now I'm 20). Bye.

It is extremely hard to believe that this film is considered to be any definition of good! Everything about it is awful; the boring clichés, the pathetic plot and the appalling look of every scene is utterly unbearable!

This movie is such an 80's classic. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey make such a cute little couple in this movie. I love the part where they were dancing at the end. My mom loves this movie also. The movie also featured the late Jerry Orbach who played Jake, Baby's father. This is a cute 80's movie.

It's the only movie I can watch over and over again, without getting bored. Maybe not the "greatest" movie ever made, but to me it is the best.

Classic (not to read 'good') 80's movie that was all the rage at the time, mainly due to it's good looking leads and the couple of big hit songs from the soundtrack. Take them out and you're left with a cliche-riddled, prescription-driven romantic-comedy-drama (which is it, anyway?!) It's not a total waste of time, as there is a handful of entertaining and/or touching moments, but by no means enough to overcome the cringeworthy moments.....or the periodical bouts of sleep I enjoyed. This film is a timeless classic. I could watch it over and over again and would never get bored of the amazing dances and chemistry between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey which keep my eyes fixed to the screen. The wonderful story line of an almost Romeo and Juliet style love touches my heart and I wanna to rewind and rewatch as soon as the end credits come on the screen - it really is a masterpiece!!! If the ending of Eleanor Bergstein's script is too neat and inspirational, the rough energy of the film's song and dance does carry one along, past the whispered doubts of better judgment. [14 Sept 1987]

A shapely film, considered and concise. And if its rhetorical slickness eventually covers up its emotional core, that slickness has a pleasure all its own. [21 August 1987]
  3. Before the movie collapses into the utopian nonsense that seems obligatory to this subgenre, a surprising amount of sensitivity and satirical insight emerges from Eleanor Bergstein's script and Emile Ardolino's direction.
