Beautifully shot in rich colors by Franz Lustig, it's possibly Wenders' most accessible film to date, and among his most emotionally satisfying.

Superb supporting performances from Polley and Baulk go some way to making up for our hero's lesser qualities.

It's all interspersed with strange attempts at comedy that fail on two levels: They're not funny, and they puncture what little drama there is.

Iconic characters and landscapes, and yet the best I can say about this movie is that it is fun. Is that all Wenders and Shepard set out to do? I wouldn't put it past them. Expand

Sweet and powerful have you ever wondered about your father? Do we all live with the parents we wish we knew?

If you have a chance to see "Don't Come Knocking" --- don't bother. As my wife said after the movie: 'That sucked.' When I asked her to be more specific she replied: 'That really, really sucked.' There were so many illogical aspects to the story -- it bordered on ridiculous and made the movie too unbelievable to take seriously. [***SPOILERS***] An aging Western movie star, who spent most of his career boozing and womanizing, suddenly wants to find meaning in his life so he rides off into the sunset - literally. He comes across some old geezer and he exchanges clothes with him and even gives the old guy his boots and his horse. He asks where the nearest railroad is located and then he hikes barefoot to it (yeah, that makes sense -- I know I don't like to be encumbered with a horse and footwear when I go on a long trek). He contacts his mother (Eva Marie Saint) for the first time in 30 years. He finds out that a woman called his mother years ago trying to locate him to tell him she gave birth to his child. This woman obviously didn't read newspapers or watch movies because this guy was in Hollywood making movies and living a lifestyle that filled the newspapers with stories of his outrageous behavior. So our cowboy goes on a quest to track down this woman. I won't bore you with the details because it might put you to sleep. Suffice it to say, the movie started off slow and then lost speed until it ran out of gas about half way through. Boring and dumb -- avoid. Expand
