A wonderful, touching, somewhat disturbing film. Yes, the lead actress, Patricia Kovacs carries the film, being the only actual "visable" character. She spends the majority of the 95-minute film in her apartment alone, interacting with a cast of characters that we only hear on answering messages, telephone conversations, or see through the shadows and blurry windows. This only makes the film even more unique. And patience is key. If you stay with it till the very end, you'll be treated by a knock-you-off-your-feet ending. A well-done film. Expand

A terrific performance by young actress Patricia Kovacs makes the high-stakes gamble of Down by Love -- a light psychodrama almost entirely centered on one character in an apartment -- into an engrossing 90-odd minutes.
  2. Never does Down by Love, handsome and fully crafted, have the feel of being a filmed play. It emerges as a fresh, challenging and unpredictable experience with a stunning finish.

Fascinating film, which tracks Éva's slowly dawning realization that she's being played for a fool, an insight that may be driving her mad.
