  • Summary: Bertram Pincus is a man whose skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particutarly Frank Herlihy who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen. That puts Pincus squarely in the middle of a triangle with spirited results. (Paramount Pictures/Dreamworks Pictures) Expand

  1. Both very funny and a bit of a tearjerker, with an on-the-money performance from Ricky Gervais.
  2. A welcome surprise: a supernatural romantic comedy that works, graced with a cast just off-center enough to make it distinctive.
  3. Leoni and Kinnear are charming, and Koepp keeps the mood appropriately light. But really, this would be just another disposable comedy if it weren't for our unassuming star.
  4. It's a smooth journey across familiar territory to a safe emotional harbor, always professional and occasionally delightful.

Once Leoni's Gwen comes on the scene, the movie starts to bubble along nicely. Not just because Leoni is a screwball heroine worth, er, screwballing--at 42, she's more attractive than ever--but because her character is given a weight and texture that's rare in a movie of this type.
  6. Diverting enough, but it's also the kind of high-concept studio concoction Ricky Gervais might have ridiculed in his great backstage-showbiz sitcom "Extras."

If it sounds all so pale and predictable, it is.

A great all around movie. Very funny, but also humor with a big heart and Gervais, once again, excels at being a bit harsh and making you like him at the same time. Tea Leoni and Greg Kinear do their roles great justice. A genuinely funny and touching film. As ironic as it may seem, those who think the film is unfunny are probably a bit too misanthropic to let their guards down to enjoy this it. Collapse

Very funny and original. The trailers do not do this movie justice.

Ricky Gervais is great and everyone should take the time to see this movie and all of his work

Ricky Gervais is terrific (until he morphs into sweetness) as he, Tea Leoni and Greg Kinnear carry the day

A kickass movie for everyone with a good taste of humor. The only thing i could say, is dread hospital visits. The much lighter, funier version of the sixth sense, without the fear. Expand

Ricky Gervais is a comedian genius and is supported by a fine cast here. The film itself however, even though it kicks off well, as it progresses the laughs are far between. Expand

Very poor, old fashioned, boring and crucially, UNFUNNY. I didn't laugh once - and I had seen all the mildly amusing bits in the trailer. Getting really bored of Ricky Gervais now too. Stick to writing Ricky! Expand
