Guardians of the Galaxy is another blast for Marvel in 2014 and it does deserve that same spot for Marvel blasting us away in non-crossover movies and what I meant by non-crossover movies is that the Avengers don't count.

I came in with low expectations since i had never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy before and was unsure if I really even wanted to see it as of a month ago. However, I am very glad I came around, because this was bar none by favorite Marvel movie yet. It is funny, thrilling, well acted, well written, well directed, moving, touching, and endlessly entertaining. All of the characters are very well developed and lovable in their own ways, though my personal favorites were Groot and Rocket. The special effects are very well done and I am certainly glad I saw it in 3D, as it is very much well worth the higher price. I cannot recommend this one enough and if this one does not touch you and leave you with a smile on your face at the end, you are simply not human. There is a lot of hype surrounding this one and, for me, it more than lived up to that hype. In Marvel we trust? Expand

ThisThe latest Marvel mashup brings a ragtag gang of unusual characters together to save the universe. Led by a sweet, swaggering human (Chris Pratt), the group includes a tree creature, a green woman, a literal hulk and an armed raccoon. This opens things up for irreverent humor, which isn't always that funny. Action is inevitable, but most of it's fast & noisy without standing out. There's also lots to look at, including dozens of fun creatures and some cool design. The playful tone and unusual individuals make it entertaining, but the underlying lack of originality keeps it from soaring. Expand

TrulyAfter failing to enjoy his previous works like "Slither" and "Super," I consider myself to not be a James Gunn fan. However his work with this relatively unknown group of Marvel heroes manages to exceed my admittedly low expectations. Truly it's one of the best sci-fi movies in recent years as well as one of the best superhero movies of the year.

It all succeeds thanks to smart *ss humor, big action spectacle, an excellently crafted sci-fi world, and a surprisingly touching story about friendship. It expands the Marvel cinematic universe into new territory. Single-handedly this film opens it up to countless new horizons and potential stories.

The excellently cast group of oddball outcasts come together perfectly. Their back and forth is often very funny even if some jokes do fall short. Overall it's not as funny as a movie as it could have been, but that's easily forgiven considering how great the story surrounding them is.

You can see that the events here play a role in the grand scheme of things Marvel has crafted for the universe. Somethings might go over the heads of those who aren't familiar with these characters outside of the movies, and because of that a big character that kicks off events might seem confusingly out of place. However this movies self-contained plot never really falls short because of that, outside of what I just mentioned.

The movies greatest strength is how quickly it allows us to grow and like these characters. They're outcasts, freaks, and loners who come together and form their own sort of family. It leads to quite a few heartwarming moments.

The action is solidly delivered with cool alien technology and great special effects. The aerial dogfights can bring back some fan favorite Star Wars moments. There are definitely things out of the norm for a Marvel action movie in the action department.

Overall it's a great entry into the MCU. One that has potential to branch out from what Marvel is doing with their heroes on earth. There's a world here worth exploring and expanding upon, and I for one cannot wait to see what comes next.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" soars. It's one that every fan of the MCU needs to check out. Some elements may alienate those without years worth of knowledge and insight into Marvel's comic book universe, but overall I doubt it will leave anyone too disappointed. My total score for the movie is an 8.9/10.

ThatI read comics and manga only that published in the newspapers and weekly magazine, other than that I am not into the comic books. So I must admit that I never heard before 'Guardians of the Galaxy' till this project start to commence. That means I had no expectations, I mean the expectation was nil. Especially after seeing the trailers and teasers I was totally repelled away to see strange characters like a tree, raccoon and other colorful skin tone human like creatures. Frankly, I thought it would end up badly as 'Green Lantern' did. I discarded my negative thoughts and decided to go after all I am a movie fanatic and that's what I do. I can say all these things were in my advantage when I went to sit in the cinema hall like an empty minded. The opening credits began to roll, me too slowly started to dissolve with the movie. It was not even 5 minutes passed, but I was into it and can you believe that I forgot to have a bite the junk food I purchased. In the end, I was very impressed like never before and how much? That's what I am going to explain in the below paragraphs.

‘‘I am Groot.’’

First, I never heard this director, kind of new in town (to me). When I checked his filmography on the movie database I came to know that I loved his movie 'Super' which was just like the movie 'Defendor'. What a breakthrough he got from this movie to enter into the big director's league list. It is a dream come true. He's also going to make a sequel for this as well and that is the real test to prove he's not just lucky to get away with this movie. Because many has predicted it won't stand tall in the box office. But what I witnessed was exactly opposite. The responsibility has become so heavier.

Secondly, its a another 3M or MMM. Don't get confused, I was saying Marvel's Marvelous Magic. Other side Disney and Pixer are battling each others in animation field to dominate. In superhero themes, is there anyone to challenge Marvel? It is like one man's pride walk on the streets of Hollywood. Recently I said in the 'Need for Speed' review that EA joined something like the same, but a unique league to transform their games into the feature films. Whatever they do, it is our gain for sure. It was Marvel's sixth movie series from 'comic-to-movie' conversion, after Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, including The Avengers. Remember 'Ant-Man' is in due early next years.

A story of a boy called Peter Quill, who was taken away from his home planet, Earth by the space pirates. 20 years later he becomes a skilled thief and calls himself Star-lord. As usual in one of his missions he meets some strange guys who are after the orb he stole from an isolated planet. Soon he realizes it is a bigger issue once he come to know what does orb do. Unexpectedly a five member team forms that includes him Quill the thief, Gamora as the assassin, Drax the destroyer, Rocket the genetically engineer-cum-bounty hunter and Groot the tree. They decide to work towards one purpose, but the thing is they are mismatched in everyway. That leads each others to get misunderstand, misuse and failures, in one word to say the losers. After the series of screw-up how they unite against the strongest villain in the galaxy Ronan was told before it wraps up with a grand final fight.

Yeah, I know the story was very simple. Men after the object that gives the power and strength is what's commonly known theme nowadays. But the beautiful cast and performances, including astonishing visuals will definitely change the viewer's perspective. It is going to be a game changer for the Chris Pratt's career. Congratulations to him to made his role unbelievably awesome. Now onwards its only look forward. Like always Zoe Saldana had been excellent and sexy under the alien skin avatar. If Andy Serkis is the master of motion-capture then Zoe is kind of a female version of him. Vin Diesel had the least display of all the lead characters, especially with his one and only dialogue that repeats all the time. It was so fun for the first time watch and hope it will remain same for repeat viewings. The character Rocket was another impressive, voice rendered by Bradley Cooper. Me too, to call him a raccoon kind of feel it is a racism remark. LOL. Definitely it is one of the top in the list of non-human or graphical character in a live-shot movie appearance. I think it was one of the biggest role ever Dave Bautista did. He was equally great to all the above, I stated. The cast was really a big, only those I mentioned in the above lines were having major portions in this installment. So expecting the others' time will come in the follow-up movies.

‘‘We are the bunch of jackass
standing in the circle.’’

Like I said the story was not the problem here because it was presented with plenty of fresh humor. Don't expect it like a serious movie with a serious mission that takes place travelling all around the galaxy in a spaceship. Especially it was far better than 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to

Science Fiction is my favorite genre, but I've never been a fan of superheroes, and in fact, ten years ago I would never have even considered seeing a film like Guardians of The Galaxy. On the surface, this looks like a kids movie, but thanks to some fantastic writing and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), as interesting a character as you will ever meet, Guardians of The Galaxy is Science Fiction at it's best. Quill is a thief, nothing more, nothing less. He is hired to steal something and does it the same way he's done hundreds of times before, only this time, there are a bunch of other people trying to take it from him. Quill will come to learn that the item is so very valuable because it is a nearly unstoppable weapon, that the worst men in the universe will stop at nothing to possess. Together with the other renegades, Quill decides the best thing to do is to stop these men and make sure the item is never able to be taken again. Chris Pratt stars and gives the performance of a lifetime. I remember first seeing Pratt in the show Everwood, and thinking that this guy has no personality, amazing how things have changed. Finally able to be himself, Pratt shows that his personality is larger than life itself, and twice now in his young career, he has turned that gift into two of the best characters I've seen in years. Paired with some of Hollywood's brightest young stars, an incredible team of writers, and special effects that are out of this world, Guardians of The Galaxy had all the tools it needed to become the companies biggest earner. This is a film that a lot of people are never going to think of as anything more than a comic book turned into a film for children, but it is so much more than that. From the music to the storyline, to the stars themselves, this film has something for everyone, it was my top film pick of 2014, a must see movie, and something that any true fan of cinema shouldn't miss. A caution borne of years of instinctive experience of crass movies aimed at the lowest possible denominator. I make it a rule never to walk out of any film, but in between admiring the face of my watch and battling yawns with as much zeal as our eclectic on screen heroes were battling each other, I very nearly succumbed to breaking with this self enforcement. The film starts badly and never recovers. One of the most mis- judged elements is the vein of humour running throughout that is puerile, lacking the benefit of any real wit or genuine laughs.
The story may be simple but there is so much superfluous chatter to draw out the running time that it becomes a language unto itself, which is probably only decipherable by teenage boys or others interested in all things 'Star Wars'. Trying to emulate that 70's classic, and I use the term loosely, the film has its own double act comprising of a very vocal racoon and a selfless tree who are clearly modelled on the characters of R2D2 and C3PO.
The cast enthusiastically inject more energy into the material than it deserves, but one remains baffled as to what actors of the calibre of Glenn Close and John C Reilly are doing participating in this nonsense.

Technically the film is outstanding. Cinematography and Special Visual effects are on the money and the Production Design is striking even if one set looks suspiciously like it had previously been used in 'Elysium'. Furthermore the Make-Up should easily walk away with an Oscar next year. However, excellent production values do not a good film make and as a movie the force is just not with it.

This may not be the most well constructed or well put together Marvel film in fact it might be the weakest of Phase 2 but it was the most fun I’ve had watching a Marvel movie since The Avengers, which while I didn’t think it was the best of comic book movies was entertaining, and considering how dark and brooding a lot of comic book movies are now it was nice to have something fun that was just a nice standalone film. And give Marvel credit for blowing away my skepticism and making this film about a group I’ve never heard of work. Because this film has little to no substance, it doesn’t have as much rewatch value as other Marvel films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier but as a fun summer blockbuster this movie fits the bill. If you are going in expecting nothing more than a fun summer blockbuster you’ll be entertained but if not you’ll probably disappointed. I’d say its worth one viewing. Don’t know if I’d watch this movie over and over again but for one viewing it was fun although I have no idea how you can pull off a sequel to this but we’ll see. For what this was it wasn’t the best Marvel film I’ve ever seen but it was one of the most entertaining ones I’ve seen in a while and I think for that the film should be given some credit where credit is do it did what I movie should do it entertained me. Guardians of the Galaxy is packed with humor, action, adventure and visual splendor. It truly is something completely new from Marvel.

If you combine the action in Star Wars with the adventure in Star Trek you get Guardians of the Galaxy, truly a fascinating movie. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't just a regular movie from Marvel, because the adventurous events made it extraordinary and highly entertaining. The action is something I really enjoy with this movie, it's packed with it, and combined with humor, it's truly something I recommend everyone to watch. The CGI is awesome, especially Rocket and some other things. Just as the CGI and the special effects is the 3D incredible, even though there isn't that much 3D effects. The actors in Guardians of the Galaxy are all spectacular, and the characters like Peter Quill, Gamora and Rocket are also great. The thing that I really enjoy with the characters is that they all have something in common (which I won't spoil), and that the main characters later find each other and do amazing things together.

I was very exited to watch this movie, because the trailers show incredible things that I have been waiting for so long for, but it wasn't that massive and exiting as I thought it would be. One of the reasons is that there are some weird and silly moments, even that most of them are funny and enjoyable, but some of them are just to silly (especially the post-credit scene). Another thing is that the first half of the movie is a bit to excessive and dull but it’s still highly enjoyable. The second half though, is much more entertaining. The last critical thing I got to mention with this movie is that I missed a more unique soundtrack like Thor: The Dark World or something entirely new, but also that the ending could have been more entertaining.

My conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy is that it’s a highly entertaining and adventurous movie that successfully is able to combine humor with action. It got some negative downsides and if it had less of those and more massive, unique and entertaining stuff, I might give Guardians of the Galaxy a 9.

Guardians of the Galaxy gets a 8.5/10

First of all, it was absolutely hilarious. The only superhero movie to date that I think rivals it in pure humor is Thor 2 but that was largely thanks to one person, Kat Dennings. This film has great laughs thanks to every character. From Peter Quill constantly fighting his ego to Gamora's "who put the sticks up their butt" misunderstanding to Drax not being able to understand metaphors to Rocket's abrasive edge to Groot's incredible dialoque, they all provide laughing moments throughout the film. The action sequences were done really well, as is to be expected from Marvel these days. The plot also unfolded nicely. I was worried in the beginning that they were trying to stretch the audience's attention too thin and have too many plot elements going on at once but they merged fairly quickly and developed well. I still would've preferred for this element of the Marvel universe to stay separate from the Avengers but hey, it's still very entertaining. Expand

It is mainly a comedy. Although some of the characters seemed familiar (the lead actor Chris Pratt is very similar to Han Solo in Star Wars), the humor and writing was fresh. The humor doesn't always work, but the zingers come fast and furious to keep you grinning. The look of the movie is excellent as well, although Hollywood still hasn't perfected the craft of making computer animated characters look completely real all the time (the raccoon in particular). All in all, very enjoyable. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Arthur Maggott, the worst of the death row inmates in which the United States Army absconds to combat the Germans is a convicted rapist; a Christian deconstructionist ingrained with the haywire belief that Eve alone brought "original sin" into being; a veritable loose cannon whom Major Reisman should have recognized as being a detriment to his mercenary outfit. In the manner that The Dirty Dozen serves as a loose template for Guardians of the Galaxy, the basis for Star Wars, likewise, garners its narrative animus from a non-sci-fi antecedent: Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, another film that features sexually depraved characters, but here the lowlifes are utilized for comic relief. C3PO and R2D2, the artificially intelligent droids Luke and his uncle purchase from the Jawas are modeled after Tahei and Matashichi, the two lowly peasants who accompany Rokurota Makabe, a general, burdened with the precarious task of protecting Princess Yuki, the last remaining survivor of the Akizuki clan. The princess, undercover as a mute girl, is preyed upon by the decrepit hirelings, knowingly taking wanton advantage of a presupposed cripple who wouldn't be endowed with the means to stop a potential sexual assault by vociferous petition. So taken for granted is the unquestioned altruism of C3PO and R2D2, it can be somewhat jarring to learn that their filmic bloodlines consist of gold-starved opportunists who would participate in a woodland gang-rape had they possessed the necessary brawn and speed to catch Yuki. C3P0, the analogue for Tahei, now seems less like some gay man than a eunuch, which would account for his feminine voice and anatomically incorrect body. It's punishment; it's karma. And R2D2, owner of an extending tool-tipped appendage employed, once thought, solely for quotidian purposes; most memorably, when he fixes the Millenium Falcon's hyperdrive generator, looks more and more like a phallic symbol, giving the seemingly sexless robot the potentiality for amorous feelings towards Leia. In Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot, a tree, and Rocket, a raccoon, share the same binaries as C3PO and R2D2: tall/short, feminine/masculine, and most importantly, celibate by circumstance/celibate by default. Whereas the tree lacks the genitalia for intercourse, Rocket does, but is doomed to be "the other", just like R2D2, since nobody could reciprocate romantic love from an entity so singular. It's not vitriol, but disguised longing that Rocket expresses with vehemence, when the bounty hunter lobs insults at the people he sizes up through his view-finder, since the toddler, the male/female couple, and finally, Peter Quill, the terra womanizer, inhabit a spatial proximity to life he can only glimpse from afar. Unlike R2D2, the golden droid understands his limitations and tries to protect his electronic friend, advising him against having "delusions of grandeur". Later, just before R2D2 boards Luke's x-wing starfighter, en route to blowing up the death star, C3PO says, "You wouldn't want my life to get boring, would you?" It's a declaration of love, platonic or otherwise; the makings of a bizarre love triangle, a futile one, at best, when it's obvious that R2D2 is no match for Han Solo in wooing the princess, even though he's a better mechanic than Chewbacca, and yet is unfairly overlooked at the medal ceremony. Only C3PO knows what all that beeping is about, only he knows the secrets of R2D2's heart. Similarly, only Groot understands his raccoon friend. Like C3PO, he tries to save Rocket from disillusionment. At the Kyln, as a survival tactic against the prison population, Rocket asks Gamora to "work out some kind of trade," pointing out to Ronan's minion that the "bald bodies find [her] attractive," which is to say, he does too. The love, it's there. When the Rocket's prison breakout plan is expedited, once Groot removes the quarnex battery from the watchtower, he grabs a big machine gun, overcompensating for his shortcomings, and as a result, he hopes, will have the effect of impressing Gamora, whom the raccoon knows will inevitably fall for Quill. While intoxicated, after a fight with Drax, he screams, "I'll kill every last one of you," as he aims his gun at the buff widower, who calls him "vermin". Even more hurtful, he is called "rodent" by Gamora. Rocket doesn't beep and whir; he doesn't need a protocol droid to translate for him. Rocket is a psychopath. But is he dirtier than Drax, the Maggott-like misogynist who thinks Gamora is a "green whore"? Although she is only a pawn in the Kree army, he is more than willing to slit her throat, similar to how Maggott stabs to death the wife of a Nazi SS officer at the Berlin compound. No. After the Nova Corp expunges the criminal records of all the Guardians, Drax asks Corpsman Dey if removing somebody's spine is a crime. Conversely, love redeems Rocket. "We are Groot," the tree tells the raccoon; tree for "I love you." Expand

Allot better than I thought it would be. It's a fun movie with good effects, interesting characters and somewhat interesting plot.

The visuals are truly superb. Never in a million years did I think they could pull off something like this, but they did and it looks beautiful.

The main characters are pretty cool and different from your usual band of superheroes. Side characters are also pretty interesting but not as flushed out as they could have been. To be honest, I think they tried introducing us to too many different characters, which did make the their development sparse. The villain, while very ominous looking, is totally boring and bland. Seems more like a plot device to demonstrate the power of one of the infinity stone.

Overall:
Aside from a lackluster villain and a bit of over-saturation of side characters, it was allot of fun. I really do hope for Guardians 2 they give us a more interesting villain. Also, get Bautista some acting lessons. He looks the part, but clearly needs a bit more time working on his delivery.

It's a zany but marvelous take on an unknown comic book (At least until now). The characters are funny, quirky as hell, and also have strong heart to them. Initially, I thought the humor would weigh the movie down at some point. However, it never relinquishes it's zany feel, which not only feels fresh to the story but doesn't feel forced. It's really the only marvel movie that has used tons of humor to its advantage and makes it truly special. Overall, it's a hilarious fun time at the movies. I give this an A! Expand

There were a few missed opportunities but I think the sequels will make up for it and when I eventually get round to reviewing them they will probably play a part in my opinion. A lot of people have said that this was better than avengers assemble but I will disagree but that was a tough act to beat.

This film deserves to be visually marvelled (no pun intended).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Analysis: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) *SPOILERS*

So here we are, one of the most exciting and funniest movie of 2014: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Like most people, I didn’t know who the hell were “Guardians of the Galaxy”, I was unfamiliar with the heroes. When I saw the trailer for the film, I didn’t get my expectations up, as the trailer wasn’t something special. However, after seeing couple of clips and more trailers, I got intrigued by it, I went to see the movie and holy sh*t. This movie is really great. The action sequences are very well done and the visual effects are sparkling, but the strong point of “Guardians of the Galaxy” is definitely, the satire. This is probably one of the most hilarious Marvel films to date, even counting “Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance” in which its badness gets way too funny, and NO, I’m not saying that “Guardians” is bad, it’s a well put together film. There’s some issues with the movie, such as the villain. I will explain that later in this review.

After discovering a mysterious orb in another part of the galaxy, Peter Quill from Earth, is now the main target of a manhunt led by the genocidal villain Ronan the Accuser. Being hunted across the galaxy, Quill gets lumped together with a group of misfits that need to learn how to get along before they can become the "Guardians of the Galaxy".

The cast seems to have fun. After all, they’re presented with a welcome dose of humor, which is pretty great. If you buy the Blu-ray, you’ll get some extras – one of them being “The Making of” – in which Chris Pratt (the guy who played Peter Quill in this one, and also played Wesley’s friend in “Wanted”) tells that in Morag scene, when he’s dancing, he tells that the music helped him give a top-notch performance. This kind of energy contributes for the performances of the stars, and thanks to James Gunn’s stylish direction, he managed to pull the performances necessary to carry the film. There were some countless scenes that really made me cachinnate, one of them being the Prison escape where Drax – a character that takes everything literally – lets a metaphor go over his head, and he says: “Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast I would catch it”. Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) also gets a few witty moments, and the character Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) earns marks for some emotional scenes, such as his “supposed” death. Gamora (portrayed by Zoe Saldana) is Thanos’ daughter, who also teams up with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy to defeat the antagonist. She’s not as sexy as most people were saying she was, in my opinion, but she’s undoubtedly, a badass assassin. Songs like “Come and Get Your Love” and “Hooked on a Feeling” are perfect, a well-chosen soundtrack indeed.

The action and the special effects are simply put together, awesome. The action is well done. I wouldn’t say “outstanding” because that would be an overstatement, but it’s very entertaining. I will indicate one action sequence that stands out among as everything else, like: Kyln Prison Escape. A scene where Drax picks a machine gun, passes it out to Rocket. Rocket says: “Oh yeah!” and starts destroying every single robot, enjoying himself while doing it (Notice how I referred Rocket as “him”, not “it”). Yeah, this scene is just amazing, as well other scenes, such as the Pod chase scene. Quill sacrifices his life to save Gamora’s is just a heartfelt sequence. Now, let’s move on to the visual effects. They are jaw-dropping. Groot and Rocket’s design are mind-blowing, they’re phenomenal. I don’t know what else I can say about them, they’re just awesome. Go watch the “Making of Guardians of the Galaxy” and see how they designed the characters and the effects.

One of the main reasons as to why “Thor: The Dark World” almost failed is because of its underdeveloped, completely forgettable antagonist (wait, who was he again? Someone named “Malekith or some sh*t, ah, whatever!). As I was saying, that’s why I had to lower my score, it’s because the villain was bad. That problem threatens to happen here, but at least, the bad guy is cool, unlike Malekith. His name is Ronan, the Accuser. I’m not saying that he’s not a badass with some cool weapons and powers, but he just seemed so bland and generic. He basically… wants the Infinity Stone and he needs to deliver the stone to Thanos, but he actually touches it, and becomes powerful than what he previously was. It’s quite clear that Marvel is weak when it comes to develop villains and write dialogue. The dialogue in this movie is not bad, in fact, its cheesiness is what makes it so meritorious.

Final Score to Guardians of the Galaxy: 9/10. I understand why people love it and I also understand why some people didn’t like it that much. This movie is briskly entertaining, frequently funny, visually splendid and well-acted. I love it, it makes me happy every time I watch it.

Aside from being set in space Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't really differ all that much from the Marvel movie formula of the last few years with the focus yet again on a mystical item that apparently yields great power. Despite this Guardians of the Galaxy is great fun from start to finish and is arguably the funniest of all the comic book movies to date. The performances and action sequences are as excellent as well making for a superbly entertaining addition to the Marvel universe. I can pay no higher complement than to say that it is probably as close as we’ll ever get to seeing Firefly back on our screens.

Incredibly witty yet scruffy with amazing style that doesn't follow any superhero formula, it is near impossible to dislike Guardians of the Galaxy. Classic soundtracks oddly fit the cosmic saga, giving it grounded and slightly nostalgic feeling. This may very well be the Star Wars of this generation.

This adventure of ragged uncommon crew has a unique light tone, almost resembling morning children cartoon or video game. The humor is spot-on, cleverly written and personalized the characters better than dull gloomy distress most fantasy movies opt for. While the dysfunctional team has its issues, they are delivered with ease, discarding any cumbersome drama and replacing them with accessible comedy.

Chris Pratt is an excellent choice for Peter Quill. He is a good example of ruffian with somewhat noble heart, and Chris Pratt hasn't been too fixed on a protagonist image. It works well since Pratt could be your usual hero, but more importantly he brings great unsuspected humor. His character serves as anchor for humanity, because even though the tale happens in gigantic other realm, Quill is often shown as mere human and this aspect will definitely resonate with the audience.

Zoe Saldana as Gamora is now green skinned. After Avatar and Star Trek it’s safe to say that she possesses the exotic alien look. As a veteran of sci-fi genre, she carries herself comfortably and quite believably as action persona. Her character is indeed a peculiar love interest for Quill, but deep down it’s more a search for companionship rather than romance. Dave Bautista as Drak hasn’t got much experience in acting yet, still this character suits him and with a compliment of good cast, he probably has the better role any pro wrestlers have had in recent time.

Groot and Rocket are both CGI. Rocket, voiced by Bradley Cooper, is the heart of the movie. He’s a strange mix of raccoon and mercenary, a bit broken and still eloquently funny. Vin Diesel voices Groot, ironic that most of his roles are tough guys but as a gullible and vocabulary challenged tree that he delivers his better work. Aside from these two, CGI also covers the vistas and expected laser shooting futuristic action.

Design for the setting is great, often depicting places like those in video games. The splendor of debris and explosive accompanies the movie, it’s undeniably a good spectacle and top tier for blockbuster. The director James Gunn delivers a good continuation of scenes, humorous line and constant pace. Soundtracks from classic 80s music is gold, the contrast works much better than any techno tune could possible do.

Guardians of Galaxy is a rare movie that keeps its audience fully entertained, it doesn’t let up, if fact it gets better as it progresses. It’s a heartfelt and genuine effort to connect with audience. When it ends, it gives a warm fuzzy feeling as one leaves the cinema. It is no less than an utter cinematic achievement.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film is full of one-dimensional characters, too much unfunny humor and a cliched plot. Director James Gunn clearly depended on jokes to entertain the audience. But what am I to say? This film managed to score 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, but for what? The villain is also the most forgettable villain in the history of comic book movies, the way they wrote him is so lazy, it's unintentionally hilarious.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' is a colossal misfire, one of the worst comic book movies I have ever seen, trying too hard to be something unique and fails miserably. This felt more like a "Star Wars" spoof than a comic book action movie.

Having said all of this, this film gets points for its actors and special effects. Chris Pratt, overflowing with charisma, plays Peter Quill aka "Star Lord" really well and will satisfy most fans. I found Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) to be emotionally detached. The romance between Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista), or Gamora and Star Lord felt forced and lacking chemistry.

The story is very cliche, and there is no struggle for any of the characters, when things did get serious, the Raccoon would say something ridiculous that made everyone, but me, burst out in laughter. If this film doesn't take itself seriously, why should I??? I can only give this film such a score...and 3 out of 10 is the best I can do.

I am not saying that this is the worst comic book film I've seen, that title belongs to 'Catwoman' (2004). But this film is far from being average, let alone great. If you ask me, I think the critics must have been drinking, or smoking some kind of odd drug before they reviewed this movie. Marvel stuck their middle finger up at me when I saw 'Iron Man 3' (2013), they treat me like a fool again with this.

I've seen this movie twice in the cinemas because everybody wanted to see it, all I know is...I was the only one in the group that did not want to buy it on DVD. I don't mean to sound cynical, I think I'll just stick to watching 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' thank you.

Oh, and spoilers...what spoilers?? Nobody major even dies in this movie. There is one scene where Gamora is floating around in space and is assumed to be dead, but surprise surprise!!! She's ALIVE!!! What was the point of trying to leave the audience in the dark about that? Groot even dies, but he grows back to life, basically everybody you see in the movie poster remains alive in the entire movie.

Like I said, stick to Cap America 2 and X-Men: DOFP, better movies filled with cleaner action and self-aware humor that doesn't go too over the top.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" 10 Scale Rating: 7.5 (Very Good) ...

The Good: After several super serious Marvel films (with comedic elements), it was refreshing to see a lighter one. Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't take itself too seriously and is just flat out fun. The effects are fantastic, as expected, and the film is colorful and visually stunning. The characters are also well done and Gunn did a good job making you care about this band of outlaws as they come together to save the universe. Unlike the Avengers, which had several films to help you get to know the team before it existed, the characters are introduced and the team is formed in just two hours. I was dubious that they could pull it off and was pleasantly surprised that they did so and then some. Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser (the main villain in the film) was among the better Marvel villains in the MCU despite not having a slew of lines. He was dark, powerful, and intimidating. Lastly, there are plenty of Easter Eggs for comic book fans as the film was designed with audiences of all kinds in mind. Despite being set in it's own niche and far from Earth, the film ties into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe very well.

The Bad: While I enjoyed the light tone, the humor becomes a little much sometimes. The slapstick and random comedic moments can be a little off-putting and forced. The one-liners almost felt constant as well. I wasn't a fan of Micheal Rooker in the film as his character just felt like a blue-skinned Merle from Walking Dead. Lastly, I would have liked to have seen more from Karen Gillan's Nebula. I felt that she was woefully under-utilized. Maybe next time? A very good Marvel film, but not quite among the best.

It is also too cheesy for adults. Weak villian and motives, many of the characters are very uninteresting. Good points are that it is well paced and it is better than most Marvel movies (that does not mean much though). The best character is Rocket Raccoon, (voiced hilariously by Bradley Cooper) because he's the funniest. The film easily surpasses The Avengers and I can't wait for the sequel. Now it seems a lot of people are calling this Marvels best movie yet but i can't quite call it that myself. Don't get me wrong i absolutely loved the movie it was freaking awesome to say the least and i have it tied with Captain America The Winter Solider as my favorite comic book movie of the year. I just can't call it the best one yet as it didn't give me that uncontrollable rush of excitement while i was watching it at the theater like i got with Iron Man, The Avengers, and Captain America 2.

The movie starts out on earth we see a young Peter Quill in a hospital visiting his dying mother and after a brief segment we see his mother die, Peter runs out of the hospital into the nearby field. While crying in the field we see a bunch of flying ships come from out of nowhere and abduct Peter. Now the film picks up 26 years later we see a older Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) out on the abandoned planet of Morag searching for something we soon see him find a mysterious orb but just as hes about to leave he encounters Korath a servant of "Ronan the Accuser" and he demands Peter give him the orb but of course that can't happen and we see Peter get into a small fight with Korath and other lackeys as he tries to make a getaway. After a exciting space chase that was reminiscent of "Star Wars" Peter was able to out run Korath but in the process screwing over his partner Yondu (Michael Rooker) leader of The Ravagers the people who kidnapped him from earth which in turn makes Yondu put a bounty on his head.

Peter attempts to sell the orb on the planet of Xandar, the Nova Corps home world but after finding out that Ronan also wants the orb the buyer backs out saying he wants nothing to do with it and backs Peter out of his shop. Just as soon as Peter is back outside he runs into Gamora (Zoe Saldana) another servant of Ronan she ambushes him trying to steal the orb and a fight ensues it's not till later that we find out that she was never going to return it to Ronan but she had another suitor. While her and Peter are fighting we see Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) two bounty hunters lock in on Peter so they can capture him and return him to Yondu for money but in the process they get caught up in the fight and soon they are all captured by the Nova Corps and sent to prison. From here we get a little back story on each of the three new characters and adds another new character Drax (Dave Bautista) who has a serious problem with Gamora and wants to kill her because she serves Ronan and it was Ronan that killed his family right in front of him but Peter convinces him that Ronan will come after her and that will be the time when he can fight him.

After breaking out of the prison they head over to the criminal outpost of Knowhere built inside the massive head of a celestial to see The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) as he might now something about the orb that Ronan so badly wants. Once at the Collectors place we are gifted to many eastereggs such as Adams Warlock's cocoon that was first seen at the end credit scene for Thor: The Dark World, we got to see a dark elf also from Thor 2, there are a few other eastereggs in this part but i don't want to give them away. Anyways after The Collector tells them that what they have is an Infinity Stone/Gem capable of bringing death to anyone not powerful enough to held the power it gives when they touch it. They send off for Xandar as its one of the best places to keep it safe but before they can leave Ronan was able to find them because a drunken Drax sent a message to him while the rest were meeting with The Collector so he can finally get his revenge. After a awesome action sequence involving a one on one with Drax and Ronan and a spaceship battle the guardians find themselves beaten with the orb in the hands of the enemy.

Now with the orb in the hands of the enemy Peter comes up with a plane to get it back but it requires the help of his ex-partner Yondu and his crew and after some convincing Yondu agrees to help the guardians out but with the stipulation that if they get the orb back he gets to keep it. Now at the end of the movie which for me seemed to come way too soon as i thought to myself whoa i can't believe we are already at the ending battle we happen to get two more short encounters with The Guardians fighting Ronan before they beat him which was a let down as it was SO short its one of the reasons why i cant say this is the best marvel movie yet.

Well another review cut short thanks to Meta and its character limit but oh well.

Overall i give it a 8.5

An epic experience out of this galaxy with disfunctional but funny, clever heroes. The FX does not hamper the plot and the OST is memorable. One of Marvel bigger hits. Good choice with a bucket of popcorn.

The most unique thing to come out of Marvel in years. Guardians of the Galaxy is a blast that everyone should check out.
This new franchise has what looks like enough lore and unique creatures, planets and spaceships to rival that of Star Wars and while maybe not written as tightly as a Star Wars film, this epic is a blast to watch from start to finish.
The films main selling points are the characters and the visual design and universe the film is set in. Our 5 rag tag heroes are so crazily unique and absurd all bursting with their own personality that they flesh out the film themselves; and then added to them is a dozen different races and planets to make their universe exciting. How are these characters unique though? Well, if you haven’t seen the front cover let me explain all characters to you:
Firstly we have Peter Quill a.k.a Starlord, the human of the group. What makes him a quirky and unique character is that he was abducted by aliens in the 80’s and now roams a completely different universe. This comes with him quoting many 80’s film references and pop culture references that he is a hilarious blast to watch, along with his own quick witted personality and charisma. He also then brings lots of 80’s music to life that add to the feel and tone of this sci-fi epic.
Secondly, we have Gamora; admittedly probably the most boring of the group. She is a Green alien who wants to betray her master. Her character acts as the most effective assassin of the group who is very skillful but just comes across as a rather average moral anchor for the characters and potential love interest.
Thirdly, we have Drax the Destroyer. He looks awesome, but is the character with the lowest IQ, not understanding sarcasm, metaphors or anything a little more complex in the English language. He is hell bent on revenge and will stop at nothing to avenge his fallen ones. A simple plot device for him but his idiotic but devoted character makes up for it.
And lastly coming in a pair as they should, are Groot and Rocket; the wackiest bros to come out of Hollywood in forever. Groot is a humanoid like tree, who has regenerative abilities and knows only 3 words; “I am Groot”. He is incredibly tough and will not leave his friends behind no matter what. Rocket on the other hand is a talking racoon that was altered with experimentation and now has an obsession with making explosives and other weaponry. He is also best friends with Groot, and more the voice of the two, although he is a bit of a dick, but he is awesome. These two act as GOTG’s equivalent to Han Solo and Chewbacca.
After taking a step back and looking at the worlds these characters inhabit don’t be surprised if you’re impressed. The visuals are beautiful, with an incredible mix of practical and visual effects (Star Wars episodes 1-2 should’ve taken note) and they are all polished and sleekly made making them feel authentic. After watching the film you want to find out more about this universe.
The only downsides to this movie are the story and the script (at times). The story is a typical people band up together and put differences aside to save a world and a crazy bad guy goes mad with power and so wants to destroy it; nothing new here. Then also the script has a few too many plot conveniences and makes the speed at which all characters suddenly become devoted to each other a little unbelievable, but somehow the chemistry between the group still seems to work well.
Overall, this film is a triumph and well worth the watch. Chris Pratt nails his character and is easily the breakout star of 2014, all other cast members are great and the visuals and lore of this universe and enticing enough to have already warrant itself a sequel, which I’m sure we all can’t wait for.

I thought it would be funny and quirky, but James Gunn manages to exceed all my expectations by building something genuinely heart-felt and emotional. Really, it's not the awesome world-building and humour that make this film, instead it's the character dynamics, where each individual manages to bring something really unique and touching to the film. I was genuinely emotionally engaged, on the edge of my seat, and rooting for these heroes right from start to finish, to the point where I laughed and cried.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: There certainly are tiny moments where you sit back and question what the hell this is, but then I guess that just adds to it's overall charm.
VERDICT: 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is a properly fresh, properly exciting comic-book movie with no shame. It's got soul.

The retro soundtrack adds a layer of cool to the movie as well - instead of any hard rock, typical intense soundtrack backgrounds or EDM, we get Earth Wind & Fire, the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye and more. There are those moment of movie score in there, but the casette tape-style soundtrack is a tasteful addition that enhances the movie and, just like its characters, adds to the on-screen characteristics of the film. I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy and find it as one of the best Marvel movies so far. Who would have thought that Marvel’s next highly entertaining, multi-million (hopeful billion) dollar cinematic adventure would be set in a futuristic space world, whose tonal and narrative flow is shaped around a retro-filled soundtrack withWho would have thought that Marvel’s next highly entertaining, multi-million (hopeful billion) dollar cinematic adventure would be set in a futuristic space world, whose tonal and narrative flow is shaped around a retro-filled soundtrack with songs dating from the 1960’s to 1980’s? With hits including Blue Swede’s Hooked On a Feeling, The Runaway’s Cherry Bomb, The Jackson 5’s I Want You Back and Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy is the epitome of silly, mindless fun at the movies. I’m not sure what Marvel Studios obsession with Marvin Gaye may be currently, but after having the song Trouble Man dictate the narrative for the highly impressive Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year, it seems that the powerhouse studio is repossessing old concepts and ideas, and polishing them up quite nicely. With a bit of frantic, highly busy visual effects as well as engrossing dark physical and illicit family comedy, and presenting them in exuberantly exciting fashion for people of all ages to enjoy, Guardians of the Galaxy is a clear-cut winner.

There is no denying that Guardians may very well be Marvel’s own Star Wars for a new generation of highly diverse and eager young filmgoers; the film, which is inspired by the classic series, also does a great job spoofing much of the universe brought to life by George Lucas in the seventies. Guardians is, in many senses of the phrase, a roller-coaster ride of a film whose intention of fun is never questioned. If ever Disney wanted to shape a theme park ride around any of their properties, Guardians would surely be their best bet–never mind Pirates.

Geek culture has officially taken over cineplexes, and for the most part, so will Chris Pratt, whose turn as Peter Quill a.k.a Star-Lord, will surely be the clear victor at this weekend’s box office. Quill, a rambunctious outlaw whose fame as a nuisance to the galaxy is as important as his alias, leads a rag-tag group of criminal misfits to iconic hero status. Like most heroes, Quill isn’t quite sure he knows he’s a hero yet. Stealing and collecting junk from around the universe on his filthy Corvette-like spaceship he uses more like a bedroom for alien women than as a means of transport, Quill finally steals something so powerful, it threatens to destroy the world and him, forever. But unlike Indiana Jones, Quill doesn’t have to dodge booby-traps and outrun giant boulders, instead he just has to deal with an array of peculiar characters including; a crew of awful aiming mercenaries loyal to Ronan (Lee Pace) led by Korath (Djimon Hounsou), bounty hunters Rocket (a genetically modified, wise cracking racoon voiced by Bradley Cooper), a humanoid tree Groot (voice by Vin Diesel), an assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and a murderous maniac intent on vengeance Dax the Destroyer (former wrestler Dave Bautista).

Eventually, everyone involved with Quill and the orb he has stolen are imprisoned (except the bad guys of course). In prison, the five begin unlikely friendships based on trust, sacrifice and intimidation that allows them to escape prison and set a course to a buyer, The Collector (Benecio Del Toro) who will stop at nothing to have the newly stolen possession in his hands. Upon discovering Quill’s possession of the orb, Ronan gets direct orders from Thanos (Josh Brolin) to retrieve it. Led by his muscle Nebula (Karen Gillan), Ronan and his dark army go to extensive corners of the galaxy to retrieve the orb, and kill anyone in their way.

Guardians can rest assure that it is by no means a revolutionary film to defies the boundaries of the superhero narrative and the ‘stop the bad guy from destroying the world’ cliched storyline we have come to love and hate. Thankfully, the film is a practice of clever humour and nuanced physical slapstick that make its way into the superhero genre. Pratt does a star-lording job of leading a fresh group of actors to new heights in super hero comedy as well as interacting and getting the most from his voice cast.

Director James Gunn (Slither, Super) whose previous work makes no indication at all that his fit in Marvel’s world of intergalactic superheroes would work, does a surprisingly fantastic job writing and directing obscure comic book characters. Obvious losers in the comic book world, Gunn does an amazing job of making the Guardians cinematic heroes whose allure on screen, consisting of saturated visual effects and computer generated imagery, make for one of the greatest complete ensemble of the summer. So what if his overly ambitious score is distracting to viewers during intense scenes of built up drama and highly concentrated action. Gunn, has us, from the films first frames, hooked on a feeling of nostalgia and escapism that we haven’t felt for a long time.

I was already extremely wowed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: Days of Future Past, and didn't think that this obscure of a comic group could beat or be equal with the two films mentioned. I was quite wrong. Guardians of the Galaxy is a fantastic film that is one of Marvel's top 5 best films. Not only does the film feature the great action you'd expect from a marvel flick, but this film had comedic elements that were missing from many marvel films over the past few years. The Acting/Voicing by all of the main cast members (specifically Pratt and Cooper) was fantastic, giving us a very good depth of their characters. The best part of the film, however, was it's humor. The humor in this film was fantastic, making it a much funnier, lighter, and better entry than the previous two out of Marvel Studio (WDSMP), Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Thor: The Dark World. Overall, this along with the two films mentioned earlier just made this summer one f*****g fantastic summer movie season. Expand

An incredible movie with incredibly high stakes. None stop awesome actions and a good amount of funny humor sprinkled in there to make this movie better than it already is

The film gives audiences a completely original take on comic book characters, planets, music and narrative arcs, all ingredients that combine to create a film many people have been waiting a very long time for. Likened to Star Wars, the story follows a band of rebels attempting to put aside their differences and do whats right for the galaxy. The film adopts a fast pace and feels like an adventure, maintaining it for the duration. Guardians of the Galaxy takes risks and never shy's away, creating a thrilling adventure for all involved. When you have good writing with well executed characters starting with good casting, you have a good movie. Every character is likeable, and it feels like all my childhood fantasies mashed in one epic explosion. It's hilarious and one of the best things marvel has done, certainly the best since Iron Man 1. Evil boss to hero, "What are you doing?"
Hero(dancing on a unheard 80s tune), "I am distracting you."

Guardians of the Galaxy is a fun no-brainer that requires relentless nonsense, snappy banter, a pretty lady, and a lot of cgi to keep you confused. The script follows the-everyone-is-after-a-macguffin-that-is-worth-a-mountain-of-cash formula for first half of the movie, the second half sees the mismatched fortune seekers band together to stop the supreme bad guy from using the macguffin to destroy the galaxy... or was it the universe?
If they would pause to allow you to catch you breath you might start to ask questions, therefore rapid pacing tries to keep you off balance and hopefully entertained. Just like the hero Peter Quill tries to distract main baddie Ronan with a silly dance so he won't see the super duper blaster that Peter's companions are setting up to evaporate him.
It is fun, it is flashy and it works when it does..
At the end of the movie the tale has shot its bolt. With the bad guy gone there is no reason for the group of selfish adventurers to work together and they lack the motive and the personalities to do so. Non of the characters have any depth and the juvenile attempts by Peter Quill to get into the breeches of Gamora is something you do not want to see continued. Perhaps the only person who is marginally interesting is Nebula and she isn't even one of the 'good' guys.
Guardians also suffers by disclosing a public secret: marvel heroes never die. Death is not a requirement but danger becomes meaningless without death or at least some serious injuries. But the heroes shrug of death and injury as if they merely change a shirt.
Guardians is like a firecracker: it makes a lot of fuzz, but once it is spent the fun is over for good.

Irresistibly likeable and up-roaringly funny, Guardians of the Galaxy offers more emotional depth and better storytelling than most 'superhero' outings, and is probably Marvels best film to date.

It has a very likeable band of human and creative alien characters stealing the show. Just a nice sci fi action popcorn movie that doesn't ever take itself too seriously. This should prove very popular with preteens up to and including the parents taking them to the flick. Nothing not to like here as everyone should be entertained. Just the right amount of action, explosions and jokes to make it relevant. It moves along at a brisk pace.. It's already guaranteed that a sequel is in the works. This is one of Marvel's better movies. Enjoy, and make sure to bring along plenty of popcorn. Expand

I don't like when people act like stupid while movie is trying to be serious. The very first scene, when Star Lords mother dies and a minute after he makes stupid japes at the face of the alien. The last scene when he is dancing at the face of Ronan is beyond absurd, who in the world could be distracted by this - only idiots. Is Ronan idiot? Seems so. And for all 2+ hours the thought could not leave my mind - did I see it somewhere? It was said the movie made from comics, but I think I saw similar movie somewhere ... Expand

Nothing against marvels other superhero movies, this just had that little extra that made it awesome. With a wide array of characters being portray by a great cast of actors, this is a 2 hour long movie of solid entertainment. You follow a group of misfits turned unlikely heroes with the goal of saving the galaxy from a **** crazy antagonist with plans of destroying said universe. Most importantly, you get to see Chris Pratt's name on the big screen which is pretty cool for those who saw him come up as the goofy actor on parks and recreation. I went into this expecting more of a kiddish movie based on the pg-13 rating but I was pleasantly surprised to see marvel held very little back, what with swearing, some brutal killings and at least one dick joke, good ol' rating system. All in all this is an awesome movie that pretty much everyone has seen by now, but if you haven't, get your ass to the nearest theater and see it on the big screen for best results, going not sober also wouldn't hurt the experience as a whole. The Short Verdict: A Marvel film that takes the franchise in a total different direction. Hilarious, fresh, nostalgic soundtrack-wise and unmissable.
>
Related Media: There are comics based on this group of heroes a few decades ago but I read that the comics are not that good. The heroes featured in the comics are also not the five in the film.
>
What’s it like? A human man, a green female alien, a pink male alien with scarred skin, a cybernetic racoon and an anthropomorphised tree must put their differences aside to team up to defeat an alien bent on revenge. Just like the Marvel’s Avengers story then… The story is fun, hilarious and fresh, the soundtrack is nostalgic and the action scenes are well done. >
Pros:
> 1. It is great to have the Marvel franchise go in a new direction and come up with fun new characters that most people have not heard of. >
2. The story is fun and hilarious. >
3. The soundtrack consists of several popular songs from the 70s and 80s that were very nicely placed in the film. >
Cons: >
1. It was slightly poorer towards the end. Only slightly though. >
How would the different age groups rate it?
Children: Excellent
Teenagers: Excellent
Young adults: Excellent
Medium age adults: Excellent
Old adults: Good
>
5/5 (No half scores) - Good enough to watch it in the cinema and to buy the DVD.

The five heroes were very well developed and share hilarious scenes together. On the other hand, villains didn't receive a lot of attention when it comes to their history and the supporting cast was poorly used (specially Del Toro and Close). Besides, we have cliché in a lot of scenes, something common in this genre. Thanks to characters' chemistry and entertaining script, along with the rocky soundtrack filled with classics from the 60's and 70's, Guardians o the Galaxy is the kind of superhero film that everybody loves. You will definitely have un while watching it. Expand

While not exactly original in terms of plot or themes, the way this film has been put together makes this the MUST-SEE superhero movie of the summer. Much, much better than I anticipated, and already thought it would be a good movie going into it. The characters are quirky, interesting, and best of all lovable. The usual fun banter and chemistry between all the cast that is typical of Marvel movies nowadays is present. While it definitely put a lot more emphasis on being funny, this movie doesn't skimp on the action, though admittedly some of the sequences could have been better. Stunning visual effects are par for the course nowadays for these superhero movies, and this movie is no exception. Overall, I'm planning to see it again this weekend, along with a lot of other people it seems.
