  1. One of the few recent movies I have seen that plunged me into that rare, giddy state of pleasurable confusion, of not knowing what would happen next, which I associate with the reading and moviegoing experiences of my own childhood. But there is no reason that children should have a monopoly on this primal, wonderful experience.

The movie is a similarly ingenious clockwork contraption that interlocks the most unlikely combination of stories without ever jamming its gears.

Louis Sachar's compelling children's classic is about as Disney as Freddy Krueger. It's got murder, racism, facial disfigurement and killer lizards.

This is genuinely a fantastic movie, and amazing considering that it's a Disney live action. Great acting from all the kids, amazing performances from the adults, a really gripping and fascinating plot.. awesome for all ages. I also recommend the book, it's a really great read. Expand
  2. I like "Holes". Its elegantly crafted with pure zeal and joy, as well as honest performances of the actors. Man, if only Disney could continue on making live-action movies like this... Expand
  3. Not half bad! Although I preferred the book over the film, this was a good movie for the family to enjoy.
  4. Even though the movie is so strange that it cannot really be classed as a children's film anymore, it does not really appeal to adults either. And even though there are some really great characters in the story performed by a wonderful cast and it is directed aptly, it did very little for me. Expand
