Joaquin Phoenix is a pretty good actor, not great, but comes across as a self-obsessed brat in this movie. He doesn't have the charisma or charm to pull it off. Are we all supposed to be shocked at how the pressures of being a famous movie star can lead to jackass behavior? That Hollywood destroys souls? Give me a break. It's not art, its self-indulgent and dull.

Steve: If you pay close attention to the Letterman interview, right at the end you can hear Letterman right before they cut the mic lean over and say "good job" to Phoenix. Letterman was in on the act the entire time.

I don't for the life of me understand people who didn't get what Phoenix was doing this whole time. Why would he do it? He's an immense talent who got bored. It's not unheard of. Look to folks like Andy Kaufman for other comparisons.

He looked high on the David Letterman show. If it was all just an act; he has taken method acting to a whole new level.
