It reminds me more of Shane Black's "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang," though ultimately it's darker and more raggedy around the margins. Still, Monahan, like Black and unlike Ritchie, has some feeling for his characters.

The directorial debut of William Monahan, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of "The Departed," London Boulevard collapses under the weight of its own ideas and the amount of talent it has to burn.

That the plot is the problem comes as something of a surprise given Monahan's pedigree. The well-regarded screenwriter ("Body of Lies," "Kingdom of Heaven") won an Oscar for the deliciously conflicted cops and crime twister of 2006's "The Departed."

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good movie, could have been great. Ending really left me gutted!! Nice twist ....but not nice if you know what I mean!? Farrell was better than his usual self, albeit playing his stereotypical role. Expand
  2. A cool, likable film that feels better than it really is. I liked the vast majority of the movie, the script, cast, style, etc., it's just a boring film that never grabbed my attention like so many other films of its genre have. Expand
