The film is shot (by Dan Lausten) with a credible creepiness, and it teems with clever touches. [17 Apr 1998]
  2. It's rough when it works and rough when it doesn't. Much of the first hour is made up of slow patches, while the last 20 minutes are ugly and terrifying.
  3. 50
It's a visually effective and often scary film to watch, but the story is so leaky that we finally just give up.
  4. 38
It's dreadful, despite a solid cast that includes art-house heartthrob Ewan McGregor, Nick Nolte, Patricia Arquette and Josh Brolin. [17 Apr 1998]

Based on pure audacity and full tilt boogie forward I can easily overlook the obvious gaps in the story and enjoy this totally outrageous futuristic spin on 'what if' gone wild. Great character development, fantastic face off scenario, and a who cares what Hollywood does bravado. Inspirational, imaginative, and impulsive. Day Watch, the sequel, is even more gonzo. Can't wait for the third part and last piece of the puzzle. Expand
