Prisoners is an intense thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. With a stellar cast including Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, the film explores themes of morality, justice, and desperation as a father takes matters into his own hands when his daughter goes missing. Director Denis Villeneuve masterfully creates a tense atmosphere, delivering twists and turns that leave audiences guessing until the very end.
Prisoners pulls no punches, and it wants to leave a mark on you, and it is a testament to all involved that it manages to accomplish those things so well.
As gripping as it is grueling, with performances that swing for the fences and a central mystery that seems an unresolvable tangle of knots until those knots come undone in a somewhat forced final act.
Shot skillfully which helps add to the tension of this otherwise extremely overlong bore. The movie tries to establish too many themes with too many tangents and it adds nothing. Was the ending worth the wait, **** I was still curious to know what happened.
I'll give it a 7 for the first hour. Then it was all downhill from there. I had no idea what was going on and the movie relied too heavily on dumb luck for any progression to be made.
It felt like the actors were even more confused than I was. I'm guessing they had no idea in what context they were acting either as the script is so filled with pointless things that are never explained. And it ends with a whimper, so the pay-off never comes.
Absolute waste of time. Snooze-fest.
