  • Summary: Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told." (Nina Paley) Expand

And the ingenuity of "Sita" - is dazzling. Not busy, or overwhelming, or eye-popping. Just affecting, surprising and a lot of fun.
  2. 100
With Sita, Paley brings the same, highly specific and very personal vision we associate with the best indie and alternative filmmaking to the animated form, and the result is riveting.
  3. 100
    It is astonishingly original.

I'll be the first to admit I didn't get this movie. If I had to guess, I would probably say the blues aspect simply turned me off. However, it's still an incredible work, and considering that you can legally watch it online, I honestly can think of no reason why you would not go check this out immediately. Expand
