  1. Buoyantly clever and amusing.
  2. 88
Rude, raunchy, uproarious, yet with elements that are surprisingly sweet.
  3. 88
Surprisingly insightful, as buddy comedies go, and it has a good heart and a lovable hero.

While "Wedding Crashers" ultimately succumbs to endorsing the mushy romantic clichés that it spends the rest of the time ridiculing, The 40-Year-Old Virgin offers a wiser take on the anxieties, negotiations and expectations that surround love and sex, particularly for people who've been burned before.
  5. Apatow's film succeeds in having its virginity and losing it, too. Like "Wedding Crashers," it purges its cynicism with romanticism.
  6. Isn't quite a home run: The visually flat film leans on a pop culture crutch that probably won't age very well, and the finale – while terrifically funny – feels piped in from another, far sillier movie.
  7. Judd Apatow brings no cleverness or wit to his one-joke situation, and he can't give it the kernel of credibility that even a low comedy needs to sustain itself for a feature length.

A very competently written, utterly hilarious comedy, with just the right dose of humanity.

One of the funniest movies ever. It's in the upper-echelon of comedies, if you will. Steve Carell is a genius, and the rest of the guys are hilarious. Great movie. Expand

The 40 year old Vrigin is the funniest movie of the decade. If you don't laugh in this movie your are deprerssed. The movie was smart, witty and hilarious. Steve Carell was excellent. One of the best movies of the year. Expand

As to be expected by Judd Apatow, it's crude, quirky and funny.
Steve Carrell is brilliant in the lead & although the story is very
    predictable, it's still quite sweet.
Gets an extra mark for the song at the end.

The movie skillfully depicts the only thing that is on a man's mind, from birth to death. I can see that women find that offensive. As a matter of fact, if women could be men just for one day, they would be shocked. That is how dull the average man's life is. Collapse

Pretty decent comedy. Carrel is in top form and there allot of great jokes and scenes. However, I find that it dragged a little when it was trying to be serious.

A decent comedy, that is flawed and may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a light chuckle (primarily anyone in their 30s.)

Solid movie with some laughs, but not really much more. It's all about his virginaty and that's funny for some time but does not last until the end of the movie... Steve Carrell did a good job. I think without him this movie would be even more boring by time. Co-Cast was good as well only the storyline was to weak to stand the 90 minutes. Expand
