Feels fresh and satisfying. Maybe it's the presence of Jason Statham, the British action star who has a physicality like no other actor out there right now.
This was a great movie with action and some minor twists as a thriller. After seeing a few of Jason Statham's other movies I was expecting a great movie and it lived up to it. It actually superseded my expectations as he was playing the role of hitman.
I went to see this movie expecting action and that is exactly what I got. Sure the movie was predictable but who really goes to see a kick a$$ show with Jason Statham for anything more then good fast action... not me. He is the top action actor at present and the movie was well edited and flowed very nicely. Unlike Faster which was a little too slow given the name, The Mechanic was exactly as portrayed in the trailer. Definitely the perfect "guys night out" movie to see.
Adequate light entertainment for those who enjoy thrillers, but it is uneven and the underwhelming ending will disappoint those who enjoyed the delicious irony served up by its predecessor.
The Mechanic runs on violence, and when no one's being riddled with bullets or getting their hand shoved into a garbage disposal, it lags. That said, the "action" sequences are so frequent and bloody that they render plot nearly obsolete.
The new film could have benefited from even a moment of genuine reflection. Being a mechanic seems like a thinking man's occupation. The Mechanic, though, barely has a thought in its head.
An explosive action movie with Jason Statham at its best. I believe its an all around action thriller. Its packed to the brim with explosions, headshots and even a destructive car chase. The Mechanic certainly fixed things well for me to enjoy this movie from begining to end. Well worth a watch
Mechanic is an action movie with a mediocre desire to seem like a drama. In the first Mechanic is an ordinary action movie with several good action scenes. Secondly, he tries to thriller, the scene of the murder of another killer is simply terrible, it does not have even 1/10 of a share **** thriller. Thirdly, Mechanic suddenly wants to be a drama, coping even worse with it. Mechanic had to be just a stupid action movie, then it wouldn't make a bad movie. I didn't watch the original source, maybe all this turned into a remake of the original movie. But even if this is the case, it was necessary to make more effort, especially since the film had a good cast for its budget.
In recent years, Director Simon West has become known for turning simple action movies into big hits, thanks his unique story lines. The story doesn't actually mean as much in action films as it does in other genres, because as long as people are getting killed and things are blowing up, most action fans are satisfied. Simon West wasn't and in recent years, he has given us some great stories to go along with the amazing action. His most recent film is actually a remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson classic, by the same name. The Mechanic is a code name for CIA hit-man, Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham). For years, the Mechanic has gotten the job done without question, until one day his next target is revealed as his mentor. The stories are similar, but the special effects and action moves are much more intense, and we have Jason Statham to thank for that. This man has single handedly taken action films to another level. For those unfamiliar, the man speaks several different languages, is trained in dozens of forms of fighting, and he's quick with a joke, many of which are unscripted. Every film Statham does is entertaining for his tremendous moves and unpredictability. The Mechanic gives Statham the chance to show off his talents and for that, I loved it, but trying to modernize the original story without changing it all that much, makes things feel a little outdated. I found many things to be tame by today's standards and the film itself does suffer because of it. Statham is paired with Ben Foster and that's problematic for the film as well. Foster is not known as an action star, he's the complete opposite of Statham, and in this case opposites do not attract, they had no chemistry whatsoever. In my opinion, Jonathan Rhys-Myers or Alex Pettyfer would have been a much better choice, but I am just a reviewer. That being said, the Mechanic isn't a bad movie, it has all the moves and wit of a typical Statham movie, but the story is more than a little outdated and aside from Statham and Sutherland, the casting left a lot to be desired.
This movie suffers from a really big problem: not enough Statham. Seriously. I was expecting a Jason Statham movie. What I got was an extremely weak buddy movie about some other guy we don't know anything about, except for that his dad got shot. Jason Statham works best alone. Crank? Solo act. Transporter? Solo act. This? Crap. Statham barely does anything cool throughout this entire movie, his sidekick either gets the good scenes or completely ruins everything with Jason in it. Not recommended, not even if you really, really like Jason Statham.
I called a Mechanic, and he broke my film.
Review of "The Mechanic" 2011
This Redux of ****/title/tt0068931/ has managed to do what very few films have accomplished. It made me stop watching it, with no feelings I might miss something and perfect assurance I could have been doing something better than watching a rock video for serial killers. Instead of following the formula that worked in the past the producers and director, this time around decided that it had been missing graphic and brutal depictions of murder, so they fixed it. But ended up breaking something that didn't need any fixing. If your thinking that I am just not into violent films, you would be wrong. Many films have brought the fictional representation of violence to the level of fine art. This is not one of them. In fact I had not ever known the title of the Bronson movie. I caught it late at night just as it started in 1983 on **** film was riveting. I have often thought back to it through the years as a fine example of american action suspense film. Halfway through this Redux of fail, I began wondering why I was watching it at all. Then I caught a post from a young man reviewing it on imdb. Which said,( this film is so lame >>>>> so on and so on.) But what got me was the end of his review. "The movie they based this on must **** to, I will never watch the original." That is pretty damn bad. I had different issues than the angry young man had with this production. The film over all is well made. The editing, cinematography, directing everything, except the soundtrack, is technically professional. I think the director lost his mind and forgot he was making a movie though and attempted to make The Mechanic into the first Blockbuster Snuff Film. The assassinations depicted for these so called professional killers are very close to torture. Long involved scenes of merciless stabbing, chocking, crushing, and slicing the targets they are contracted to terminate left me queasy. By halfway through the film I had lost all consideration for any kind of plot. I no longer cared for, or could root for either of the main characters. Once you start thinking that your main heroes should both be lobotomized and incarcerated for life because they are sociopathic murderers, its pretty hard to notice there is a story . All I remember is how bad I felt for the people I was supposed to not care about or even dislike; as they died. So in my opinion, this film was wretched, and forever tarnished the good name of a foundational piece of American Cinema.
