PatC.Jan 7, 20044The critics collectively are buffoons on this one. There is no comparison between this simplistic fare and a responsibly-made movie.

MikeF.Nov 26, 20024This is the most overrated movie I have ever seen. The initial scene to "Springtime for Hitler" and a few other tidbits were the only laughs. This movie definitely does not live up to the hype.

DanC.May 5, 200410Brooks' second best film! It is so funny! Springtime for Hitler is a classic! Dick Shawn nearly steals the show as L.S.D. Wilder gives a career best performance.

RichardJul 15, 200210Well worth revisiting for so many reasons. There's the pitch-perfect delivery of the cast, the still-ticklish script, and both "Love Power" AND "Springtime for Hitler." It's also, in the end, rather sweet. Not even Brooks can make 'em like this anymore.

GeorgeM.Jul 8, 200210If not the funniest movie in the world, it has got to be tied for 1st place. Mel's script is most irreverent and Wilder and Mostel are pure magic and show their genius in the delivery.

-
BartowR.Aug 6, 20049Not quite Mel's best (that would be Blazing Saddles.) The musical though is absolutely his best work.

-
RosieK.Oct 13, 20029Mel Brooks is brilliant. Hilarious and clever, this film was 88 minutes of laughter and whimsical pleasure.

FatBoyDec 12, 200210Funny the first time I viewed it, funnier yet the third and fourth times! Gets better every viewing!!!!

SpringtimeForGilbertMulroneycakesDec 4, 200210This movie does live up to the hype. If you don't even crack a smile at some of the jokes, you're mineral, dead, or manically depressed. One of the greatest movies. EVER.

MaryJoM.Jul 3, 200210One of the funniest movies ever made. Mostel and Wilder are national treasures.

JamesC.Nov 8, 20027I love Mel. I liked this movie, but these guys chew some serious scenery! I had to speak up for those of us that weren't blown away. I want to see the musical on Broadway, though!

YoonMinC.Sep 24, 20037A crazy idea of a movie directed without the requisite eccentricity to really pay off. While the actors tumble about in inspired lunacy Brook's direction is only customary and mechanical. But, with Mostel, Wilder, and other players unleashing an orgy of absurdity, perhaps the director's role is irrelevant except in a supervisory capacity.

RogerB.Nov 1, 200410It is the best movie ever made. Zero Mostel is at his best.

100The one aspect of the original Producers that still stuns is the roaring, over-the-top, in-your-face thereness of its two lead performances.
-
90However familiar, it delivers like a shorted slot machine.
-
100Maniacally funny. It remains neck and neck with "Young Frankenstein" as Brooks' best film.
