  • Summary: Eyal Silvan's documentary of the 1961 trial of former SS official Adolf Eichmann, cut from 350 hours of footage, details how three Isreali judges had to determine over the course of eight months the extent to which Eichmann (known as the "specialist" for his transportation of the Reich's Jewish population) could be held legally responsible for the deaths of millions. 1. An astonishing human, political, and historical document.
  2. 80
    An austere and fascinating documentary.
  3. The Specialist allows Eichmann to convict himself, not of complicity in the Holocaust -- to that he pleads guilty, by reason of nationalism -- but as a man unfazed by his own inhumanity.
  4. What's most conspicuously missing is the kind of background information needed to assess many of Eichmann's statements.
