An unexpected anomaly — a sequel that both is better than and fixes the problems of its predecessor. It's a chilling and genuinely frightening horror film, driven by some solid performances and Roberts' command of atmosphere, location, and relentless pacing.
Just as the movie seems to have exhausted its supply of generic guilty pleasures, it ascends to some more operatic and mordant plane of slasher-dom in a wacko sequence that involves the aforementioned “Total Eclipse Of The Heart,” a swimming pool, and a perfectly timed smash zoom.
The Strangers: Prey At Night is a feature-length homage to Carpenter's best, and albeit familiar in structure, Johannes Roberts' execution strikes with brute ferocity.
Director Johannes Roberts is clearly a fan of films such as “Christine” and “Halloween.” The production elements are first-rate, including the expansive setting that includes multiple cabins, a playground and a swimming pool.
The cast all perform adequately, with Hendricks in particular proving effective, but it’s just difficult to really invest in what happens to any of them. Before long, characters are all making stock horror movie decisions, and there’s no amount of effective craftsmanship that can sell stupidity.
The Strangers: Prey at Night is a sequel to the 2008 horror movie The Strangers, in which a family is stalked by three masked assailants. The sequel takes place in a trailer park, with the family trying to survive against the same attackers. However, the sequel is not as good as the original due to a reliance on cliches and weak characters. The pacing is slow, and the plot is predictable. The villains are the best part of the movie, but the movie is bogged down by the bad decisions made by the characters. The soundtrack is good, and the visuals are well done. The final scene is unbelievable and the ending is unsatisfying. Overall, it is not a terrible movie, but it is not as good as the original.

Although the first one left me bored, it still felt watchable. This one had it all with an edgy teenager, brother who teases, dad trying to make everyone happy, mom who tries to relate but feels oddly suspicious, horror movie logic where things make sense one second and absolutely no sense the very next. I wouldn’t call this a horror movie or even a suspense movie, thriller at best.
I've got more questions than critiques.
1. It's been 10 years since the first movie came out and this is what we got?
2. There's been so many slasher movies, what makes this different?
3. Why even make a sequel when your ideas are dry?
4. Why dose it have an 80's-like style to it? None of it adds anything to the overall quality of the film. It's not even set in the 80's, by the way. For style purpose I guess.
5. Why is the only good scene in the whole movie takes place at a swimming pool?
And finally..."Oh My God There's a Bang at the Door"
