Gallo and Dalle are sublimely tragic figures; the scene in which Shane stalks around Notre Dame like Frankenstein unleashed is a pitch-perfect encapsulation of the way the film plays with and deepens movie-monster archetypes.

Vincent Gallo is extremely talented in many ways. He is also complex sensitive, poetic and very funny. The public responses to him vary greatly. He is completely misunderstood and those who misunderstand his intensions and humor will certainly misunderstand his masterful works of art. Perfection, in every single way, but I just can't explain why. It contains one scene of absolutely carnage, and another which left me very, very unsettled, both of which were very disturbing and gory, but somehow they contributed to the bigger picture, lifting a moody, spectacularly structured film into a higher realm. The result is a bloody, brilliant, bold and overwhelming experience. The critics know nothing - this is one of the greats. Full Review »
