David Schwimmer has made one of the year's best films: Powerfully emotional, yes, but also very perceptive.

One of the most chilling things about Trust is how well it lays out the grooming strategies used by expert predators.

With a sterling cast and an emotionally powerful performance from newcomer Liana Liberato, Trust packs a real dramatic punch.

The mantle of social relevance can be a heavy one, but Trust, a smooth drama about a girl's seduction and rape by a middle-aged Internet predator, is neither preachy nor hysterically overreaching.

Unfortunately, this well-acted cautionary tale is hampered by a lack of visual finesse and a script in need of a narrative rethink and a dialogue polish.

Schwimmer is so committed to telling grim truths about modern living (whither goes humanity in the age of Twitter and sexting?!?) that he abandons the film's tantalizing slide into B-movie exploitation.

I have had those problems as a gay teenager (Well, maybe a bit less) and after watching the film i was shocked to believe how blind i was to my actions. But the only thing that made "Trust" as an amazing film with a social statement was the use of "American Apparel", to show that the sexual models in the ads provide the wrong ideal of sex, romance and love in general. On her 14th birthday the middle child Annie receives a laptop as a gift from her mother and father. After using several online chatrooms her and a 14 year old boy named Charlie begin to grow fond of each other, after agreeing to meet up with Charlie at the local mall Annie learns that Charlie is actually a middle aged man. Charlie takes Annie to a motel and asks her to model some underwear and then rapes her. After a worried friend of Annie alerts the authorities to what happened in that motel room the Cameron family slowly begins to fall apart with a depressed Annie in the middle of it all.
Trust is a heart-wrenching drama that is extremely well written, preformed and directed, a film that all young people should watch and an absolutely astounding film in its own right.

Clive Owen is outstanding as the dad unsure of what to do to cope with a family in crisis whereas Liana Liberato portrays the victim not wanting to admit to what has happend to her. As a whole the film was very pleasing to watch with superb acting and a strong storyline. This is however a film for the family and is worlds apart from Schwimmers last feature film. Expand
