This film is really bad. It has no point of being a film and it is really fake. I wouldn't have watched that film if i knew was so bad. It had no plot and i really regret watching that bad film. Not funny not interesting just some garbage. french garbage

This movie is actually "remake" of a french classic under the same name. If you speak french or you can find a version dubbed with your language, go check out the old La guerre des boutons" from 1962. It is a hundred times funnier, more charming, subtle and even more serious without having to rely on some clich├ęd and totally unnecessarily forced WWII conflict (it is set after the war). Do yourself a favor, skip the remake and watch the old version, you won't regret it. Expand

War of the Buttons is handsomely crafted and it's touting tolerance, but as long as we open the gates to the Trojan horse of historical simplification, there's a danger that Hollywood could attack us with "The Goonies Go to the Gulag." Be vigilant!

But when there's such a lighthearted, boys-at-play manner about the story's established aspects, it creates an odd disconnect from the World War II tolerance lessons that the filmmakers seek to add. War and persecution are bad, kids - except when it's all in good fun.

For a movie that aspires to be heartwarming, it sure does inspire a lot of eye rolling.
