Bill Kurtis

Biography: Mr. Kurtis is a writer, producer, and host of many popular crime documentary series and news programs. Born in Florida and ultimately raised in Independence, Kansas, Mr. Kurtis attended the University of Kansas and attained a B.S. in journalism in 1962. He also attended Washburn University Law School and was awarded Juris Doctor in 1966. After landing a job with a Wichita Law firm he decided instead to follow a career in journalism and began his TV career at WIBW in Topeka, Kansas as an anchor. After covering a tornado that struck the area and killed 16 people, Mr. Kurtis was noted for his 24 hour continuous coverage and his warning that became synonymous with the storm, "For God's sake, take cover!". Moving to Chicago in 1966, he began working at WBBM Channel Two News as a reporter and later as an anchor. In 1982, he moved to New York to anchor the CBS Morning News but returned to Chicago and Channel Two in 1985. Mr. Kurtis left The Channel Two News in 1996. He still produces and host his award-winning television series' for A&E and as added Author to his resume for the book, "The Death Penalty on Trial: Crisis in American Justice".
