David Dickinson

Biography: David was born in 1941 and was adopted by a couple in Cheadle, Lancashire. His father died when he was 12 but he did have a happy childhood. As a kid, he was always swapping marbles or small things.

His grandmother sent him to a factory to learn engineering at 14 then left the job to get another job in the textile industry. Then he went to be a commission agent. In the mid 1970s, David Dickinson met his wife-to-be in a night club. Her name's Lorne Lesley, an international cabaret artist and the marriage has been going on for thirty years and is still going strong. David became Lorne's manager and hey went around a lot of shops where David started to become interested in antiques. He opened an antique shop with his friend, Chris Haworth. They sold the shop in 1980 to do a glamous emporium but it failed after 3 years and their partnership disolved but they remain the best of buds. After another shop failure, David decided to go into selling antiques and going to antique fairs. He met a TV producer and he had his first TV appearance. In a two part documentary about him and his preparation in his show of Olympia.
Now he presents the very successful daytime show, Bargain Hunt that is now on primetime. His show won awards, appeared in many TV shows and his catchphases including "Cheap as chips", "Cracking" and "Bobby Dazzler" became famous.
