John Lynch is an Irish actor who was born on December 26, 1961, the eldest of five children. His sister is Susan Lynch, also an actress. Lynch attended London's Central School of Speech and Drama, and his first break came, the title role in the Irish drama Cal, while he was in his second year there. Even though he liked being in movies, Lynch dropped out of the film scene for a decade to focus on his theater career. He resurfaced in the mid '90s and began getting steady acting work. He won the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1995. In 1998, John played a two-timing boyfriend to actress Gwenyth Paltrow in Sliding Doors. In 2000, he wrote the script to Best with his wife Mary McGuckian, a movie in which he also played the starring role. Lynch has appeared in over 60 movies.
