Katherine was born on July 14th, Bastille Day, which seemed appropriate to her, being of French descent herself. She is the niece of tv star Barbara. She was born and raised in Southern California, though her father was originally from the South, so she has that culture bred into her as well.
Katherine grew up involved in writing. She has a minor in journalism and worked on her schools' papers in junior high, high school and college.
She was also involved in theatre all of her life in community theatre, appearing in such cs as The Unsinkable Molly Brown. She graduated from UC [University of California] Riverside with a B.A. in Theatre. She had been accepted at UCLA, but UCR offered her a full scholarship, and she couldn't turn that down.
In addition to her writing for feature films, she has produced and crewed equity waiver plays in L.A. just to get back to the excitement of live theater. She says she writes because she likes the look of words on the page- it thrills her to make herself and someone else laugh, cry or muse over an actual sentence.
She began her career in show business as a production assistant. She felt a bit hesitant to attempt to enter the film business on the creative side as a writer or director, so she decided to take the business route. Katherine worked in the literary department at ICM, a very big talent and literary agency, then worked at 20th Century Fox and at Columbia/Sony, where she was a Creative Executive. But when the Northridge Earthquake struck she realized she was not doing what she felt she was meant to do, so it was time to take a risk and do what she had always dreamed of doing- writing.
