Local actor Marisa Siketa is about to become a national soapie star as Ramsay Street's new little rascal.
The newest and youngest Neighbours star couldn't wait for her first episode to be screened on Tuesday May 21.
"I've already watched the tape of it, but I'm still really nervous," she said.
At just 11 years old, Marisa scored the ongoing role of Summer Hoyland, who she says is mischievous and a very good con artist.
"She's just a really, really big troublemaker," she said.
While Marisa guarantees she has few similarities to her on-screen character, she still finds time to have fun on the set.
"There was this one time when I was working with a dog who had to run away from me, but he would just walk off," she said.
"So I ended up chasing after him. Everybody laughed and it was kind of embarrassing."
Marisa began acting lessons three years earlier at the Screen Actors Studio; the same place fellow cast member Jonathan Dutton began his career.
"Jon came back to do a last year and he didn't even remember me," she said.
"I showed him an old photo that we had and he was all embarrassed."
Marisa says her success has only happened because of her intense training at the Screen Actors Studio.
The studio's co-director Sue Ross says Marisa has always been enthusiastic and dedicated to her acting.
"She worked hard, she had a really good look and she trained hard," Ms Ross said.
"You could see when she went up to the audition how well she understood the whole process."
The Screen Actors Studio has been responsible for an increasing number of successful, local actors.
"In each of the last three years we've had someone gain national status. We had Craig McMahon go to Totally Wild, then Jonathan Dutton on Neighbours and now Marisa on Neighbours too," she said.
Ms Ross says the rise of their Geelong stars has caught the eye of Melbourne Casting directors.
"They can see a pattern emerging with our actors, which is great for us and great for Geelong," she said.
"TV is such a fantastic industry to promote an area because it's got such an incredibly high profile.
"It certainly is important in terms of Geelong's revitalisation and I think the City Council is aware of that too."
Geelong Arts and Culture councillor Dr Srechko Kontelj agrees that having local actors on national television will help Geelong's development.
"We already have many creative people from the television industry living in Geelong for lifereasons," Dr Kontelj said.
"In time this will lead to more work for our budding actors and I'm hoping it will also lead to economic development in that some of the production companies may decide to set up elements of the business here in Geelong.
"We've seen that young people, like Marisa can make a very good living out of the film and entertainment industry.
"I know I'll be watching Marisa on Neighbours."
