Peter Mullan

Biography: The award winning film writer, director and actor Peter Mullan was born in 1960 in Peterhead the sixth of eight children and grew up in Cardonald, near the shipyards. At school he gained five grade As in his highers and went on to study Economic History and Drama at Glasgow University in 1977, being the first in his family to go on to higher education.

For seven years after he left university Peter combined teaching drama in the community with performing and was a member of the 7:84 theatre company. In 1988 he joined the Wildcat Theatre Company. For the next few years he played more theatre and television. He then played a supporting role in Ken Loach's film Riff Raff which began his career in film, followed by small parts in films such as Braveheart, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting. Peter's partner is 'sultry stunner' Robina Qureshi, a Palestinian Muslim human rights campaigner. They met while filming in Albania. Their relationship was first introduced to the world by the UK News of the World in September 2006. He has three children from a previous relationship.
