Radha Mitchell was born in 1973 and a native of Melbourne, Australia and is best known for her debut role as Danni in Emma-Kate Croghan's romantic comedy, Love and Other Catastrophes, in which she co-starred with fellow Aussie actress Frances O'Connor . Radha has worked on both the stage and on the small screen in her native country. She started acting while still in high school in the Woods theater production of Desire. Among Radha's other film credits are the short film, Sleeping Beauties, and the theatrical release, High Art, in which Radha stars opposite Ally Sheedy. Both films were screened at this year's Sundance Film Festival, the later of which won the prestigious Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award© and appeared in the Director's Fortnight Ceremonies at the Cannes International Film Festival in France.
In 1996, Radha won a role as Catherine O'Brien in the Australian soap Neighbours, she stayed in this role until 1997 when her character moved to England with her later husband Malcolm Kennedy.
Radha has become an important player in the independent film world, having produced Everything Put Together, which was shot in a digital format, one of the first films to be filmed in that medium. The story followed the seemingly perfect life of Angie and Russ. They've got a big house, an enduring marriage and a baby on the way. They're insulated from everything awful, yet Everything Put Together showed their vulnerability and the transience of their well-being. It was a sober and skillfully rendered portrait of the American Dream unraveling. It was hailed as "one of the most visually accomplished and emotionally provocative films in the Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival."
Radha has completed shooting a new psychological suspense drama called Visitors, which filmed on-location in Vancouver, British Columbia. The project was written by Everett de Roche (Razorback). Radha plays "Georgia Perry," "a yachtswoman who is attempting to sail solo around the world. She is almost home when she becomes stranded in an eerie dead calm in the middle of the Indian Ocean. As a deep fog envelops the boat and the fifth day of zero wind commences, Georgia's grip on reality loosens and the first 'visitor' arrives." Susannah York and Ray Barrett play her parents whilst Tottie Goldsmith also has a role. Richard Franklin (Psycho II, FX2, Brilliant Lies) directs. Shooting wrapped in December 2001.
Phone Booth has been postponed indefinitely.
In Neverland, Radha shares the experiences of 'Peter Pan' author J.M. Barrie, which eventually lead him to write the children's classic. He got to know four children who had no fathers. Drawing from his time with the kids, he wrote a story about children who don't want to grow up. The film also stars Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Julie Christie, and Dustin Hoffman.
In Johnny English, Rowan Atkinson plays the eponymous lead character in a spoof spy thriller. During the course of the story we follow our hero as he attempts to single-handedly save the country from falling into the hands of a despot. The film stars Radha, John Malkovich, Kevin McNally, and Natalie Imbruglia.
