Stephen J. Cannell

Biography: Stephen J. Cannell is one of TV's most prolific writers and producers. Over his long career, he has created, written or produced more than 1,500 hours of TV and has been behind some of the most popular series of the 1980s and 1990s. He has achieved this success while overcoming his dyslexia, which caused him to struggle in school.

After getting a degree in journalism from the University of Oregon, Cannell was a freelance writer for crime shows such as Columbo and Ironside before becoming a story editor on Adam-12. He used this as a jumping off point to begin creating and developing his own shows. He created The Rockford Files with Roy Huggins, as well as The Greatest American Hero, 21 Jump Street, The Commish, Baa Baa Black Sheep and many more.

In addition to his TV work, Cannell is also a novelist, with 11 books published and a twelfth due out soon.
