The most pleasure from Gears 2 has to be in multiplayer, and I’ve very much enjoyed playing the campaign with friends in ever more challenging difficulties.

Whatever the situation, we can only judge the game as it is now. And one thing is for sure: playing it for the first time is a journey that borders on magical.

While there are deeper thrills to be found within "Virtua Fighter," Tekken 5 offers one of the most accessible and exciting entries into the genre.

It's rare to see a game with so much polish pull it off in gameplay terms too, but FIFA 07 really is a fantastic piece of work.

If you've a love for games such as Civilization and Settlers then this is one PC game you can't do without. While not as high-profile as those titles it should not be missed.

The game's story and dialogue, while full of plenty of macho nonsense, is humorous and never takes itself quite seriously - giving great credibility to the engaging characters.

This is loooooong term fun. This is rich in character and beauty. This is an ode to an author who started something huge.

Special praise also has to be dealt to Turbine for creating an MMO that managed to ship in a fairly completed state, and with stability issues kept to a minimum.

The Burning Crusade is a must-have, both for ongoing players of World of Warcraft but also the players who got bored at level 60 and stopped playing.

It's been an utter delight to play the game again, especially as the conversion to Xbox has been handled so well. No self-respecting Xbox Live player should be without this game.

Quite possibly the best basketball game you can get right now on the PS2 and dare I say it, on any platform.

LittleBigPlanet is everything you could possibly imagine, stuffed into miniature craft based levels, and executed remarkably well, and although everyone is still getting used to the tools, there are some real gems available online already for the keen player.

While you’ll be afraid for the majority of the time, the save game and checkpoint system is quite generous so that you’ll never be too frustrated at a death and having to replay large portions of the game, though this takes away none of the fear.

A gripping, and challenging, single player mode should eat up a good ten to twelve hours, and the wealth of multiplayer options should keep you going for a lot longer.

The sequel is out in Japan. The sooner it arrives, the happier I will be. If it’s not as good as the first, I may resort to self-harm.

The game looks and sounds as good - and with moderately decent hardware looks even better.

If GRAW is as well supported with extra maps and content as Ghost Recon was, this is one of those genuine cases of a game you’ll be playing until a sequel comes along.

The game's sound effort is nothing short of impressive, with a particularly thumping, epic soundtrack playing throughout.

All versions of Just Cause 2 are great - but the PC version just has enough to nudge it up to the next score threshold. Kudos to Avalanche for not fobbing off PC gamers with a poor console port.

It serves as the perfect introduction to the franchise or indeed MMORPG games in general, as the quest system is exceptionally easy to follow, while the presentation and visuals are top notch.

Right out of the box (no patch needed) the game ran smooth, looked awesome and kept me both terrified and unable to walk away. The pacing is perfect and the production value unmatched.

It's the best realistic shooter on Xbox Live and it's only real rival might be the forthcoming "Operation Flashpoint Elite," which may steal some of it's thunder.

Even the achievements are well thought-out – what began with Pacifism in Retro Evolved has expanded to the point where eight out of the twelve achievements require you to play in a non-standard manner, for example Wax On and Wax Off – gained for completing one and two complete circuits of the arena walls in Pacifism mode – or Phobia – scoring 1,000 points in Waves mode without collecting any geoms (much harder than it sounds).

It is an oddity in the gaming world which is mercifully free of the shallow obsession over improved graphics. Instead the focus is on fulfilling your managerial fantasies and the gaps are filled in by your own knowledge and love of the game. If you aren’t at least mildly obsessed with the results on a Saturday then you’ll never understand the appeal of this.

EA have really thought about NHL 09 and with the introduction ‘Be a Pro’ this year, they have taken things further. The bar has well and truly been raised by EA and others will have to respond.

The controls are intuitive, proving there’s life in console RTS games yet, and the game itself is as diverse, challenging and enjoyable as the series ought to be.
