In an age of increasing style over substance and companies trying to extract cash from gamers left, right and centre for new "services", it’s truly heartening to see a game done absolutely right, and the setup around it also done absolutely right. Great stuff, Nintendo.

Add stunning graphics, custom soundtracks and Xbox Live compatibility to the mix and what we have here is a top class arcade style racer that not only finishes miles before the competition, but laps them several times for good measure before knocking them off the track and into the roadside gravel.

Ratchet and Clank 2 has taken every aspect of its predecessor and given it a firm kick up the behind. All the worlds, colours, polygons and details have been increased for our pleasure.

Regardless of whether you wish to tackle the game’s in-depth franchise mode, or return once or twice a month for a quick blast, there is one word that can sum up the experience: solid.

A slightly different flavour to this vintage perhaps - less appealing to some, more appealing to others. But still, unquestionably, the greatest.

Overall, MP3 is an out and out stunner. The game is epic in scale, drenched in quality and care, and some sequences - such as the initial freefall fight against Ridley - are inspired.

Yes it has its flaws and the lack of any real evolution from the original Champ Man series might disappoint some, but get past one or two minor flaws and this is as complete an experience as any other game from any other genre out there. A superb start to an exciting new adventure for SI.

F-Zero GX can best be described as having a long row with a supermodel, and then having impulsive make-up sex afterwards. Go into it with the will of a barbarian and with patience, you'll reap the spoils.

It manages to balance player vs. player and co-operative modes far better than its competition, simply by having two types of character.

I expected no less than greatness from World in Conflict. Sierra doesn't do dud games and Massive Entertainment has really lived up to its name. Play this game, and know firsthand what games can be: no longer an emulation of brilliance, but brilliance to be emulated.

Fast and frantic gameplay, unparalleled graphics and sound - this is the all out assault on the senses that Wipeout always should have been. Forget Fusion on the PS2, this is Wipeout gaming at its very best, a glorious gaming romp that really demonstrates the true power of the PSP console.

Perseverance is the key, but a lot of people might walk away from it before they master the more demanding elements. This is a shame, as there's a cracking think-first-shoot-later game waiting to be discovered, but the (sometimes overly) cerebral nature of things coupled with that crushing toughness will doubtless be too much for some.

A fantastic achievement. This is full-on, full-size GTA running on a handheld. Something most of us would probably have thought impossible back when "GTA III" originally came out.

Valve has done a sterling job of moving a flagship franchise over to a new engine. Whilst the gameplay guts come over correct and intact, (which may disappoint some), Counter-Strike: Source is an even more engrossing and captivating experience, capable of sapping hours of your time, and even the worst "1337 g33zers" abusing voice chat can't spoil the fun you'll have with it.

As a confectionery item, Sid Meiers Pirates lasts about as long as a packet of Cadbury buttons or an Easter egg in the hands of a 10 year old. Like too much chocolate, you might get sick of it after a while, but you’ll come back to it sooner or later.

It's simplicity is it's beauty, and it's a testament to Namco's skill that they've managed to make basic arcade racing so fun and so damn addictive. It doesn't do anything out of the ordinary, the AI isn't great (indeed, in places it's seriously poor) and there is no real selling point - apart from the overriding fact that it's pure, unadulterated arcade fun. The speed at which everything shifts and the level of detail is absolutely stunning. It could easily stand alongside its PS2 and Xbox counterparts without looking like the cut-down ‘diet’ version you might expect for a handheld and full credit to Criterion for pulling it off without making sacrifices in gameplay or longevity.

It seems to be, in the end, a victory of quantity over quality – the parts are decent enough, but not to the degree that we can strongly recommend it. If you’re a cheapskate or just fancy a bit of action on the ice, however, it could be worth a look.

Technically, the game is not far removed from its predecessor but this is no bad thing really. Graphics are excellent, and the animation good – once you develop some serious lightsabre skills a six way fight is really something to behold.

An all round superb game; with solid, excellent sound, a polished and easy to use graphical interface and a story worth telling - but in a way which provides minimum frustration and maximum enjoyment.

For what it is, Max Payne 2 is a successful game. It may be a tad on the short side but how long can a John Woo styled shoot 'em up last for anyway?

There’s little about PGR4 that can be complained about and other than a few niggling qualms with regards to the aggressive driver AI, and of course the issues that surround the bikes, every element of the game comes together to create an absolutely astounding package.

It’s such a welcome breath of fresh air from all those orc and goblin LOPOs that plague the genre, and the release time is perfect. With World of Warcraft on the way, CoH will have had enough time to snare a good player base and I seriously doubt that anyone will be switching over.

All in all, I absolutely loved this game. It's not without its flaws - the levelling up is, initially, a pain as Frank simply starts out too weak to be any use, but the size of the mall and the amount to do means that you will actually want to replay things until you get it right.
