Maybe the best animated series of all times and the definite series for Batman. Its impact and legacy is still felt today. They perfected the formula for a Batman series and created a dark matured setting with unforgettable story lines, characters and lot of impact, emotions and immersion. There is even the critique that some episodes made you feel to much. All main and many side characters had depth and understandable motivations. What is even more amazing they didn't shy away from matured themes like the abusive relation between Harley Quinn and the Joker, had stories with sad but fitting endings, show the dark sides of Gotham City and gave all the characters believable flaws. Then there is the style and soundtrack that go hand in hand. Just watch the Intro (Available on YouTube). They didn't even need the word Batman in it and still everyone knows who that was. In combination with some of the best scores for an animated series they create an unmatched atmosphere. I want to praise and applaud the whole team. They created something that is still remembered and praised by fans and critics. Season 1 has a lot of must see episodes and I will go into details in my recommendations: “Pretty Poison” for setting up Harvey Dent and Pamela Isley and a good story. “P.O.V” for this Akira Kurosawa inspired idea. Great storytelling and a good homage. “The Forgotten” this is focused on Bruce Wayne and you learn a lot about him and his inner struggles (not the death of parents related once). “Two Face part 1 and 2” this is the story of Harvey Dent becoming Two Face and one of Batmans and Bruce Waynes saddest failures as he could not save him as Batman and as his friend Bruce Wayne. “It is never too Late” is a good story about redemption, life decisions and guilt. “Hearth of Ice” is an essential episode. It won an daytime Emmy, is considered one of the best episodes ever of any animated show and made Mr. Freeze a truly remarkable character. If you don't have tears in your eyes at the end you should check if you have a heart or emotions. “Beware the Gray Ghost” for this idea and guest star voicing the titular character. Has good humour and is as brilliant as entertaining. “Jokers Favour” questions what would you do to save your family. Intense, relatable and first appearance of Harley Quinn who was develop for the show. Became a fan favourite character with deep character and the rest is history. “Perchance to Dream” Bruce Wayne awakens and his parents are alive, his life is great and he is engaged to Selina Kyle. Meanwhile a new hero named Batman appeared in Gotham City to fight crime. Wont spoil more except it is a must see;-). “Hearth of Steel part 1 and 2” for the idea, twist and intense story. “Almost got him” poker night for Batmans villains as each of them tells the story how close they came to kill Batman. Good individual stories and an awesome conclusion that I wont spoil. Excellent from start to finish with brilliant ideas. “Birds of a Feather” is Penguins story as he is released from prison and wants to start a new honest life while Batman distrust him. It has a bittersweet ending and is one of the most emotional episodes of the show. “Zatanna” for the titular character and their goo chemistry. Finally “The Demons Quest part 1 and 2” for Ra’s al Ghul the story, twists and climax. Overall this cemented the status as best incarnation of Batman and definitive series. Still excellent and unmatched even today.

The best adaptation of Batman out of comics. It has something for everyone and its a very good show. You might be thinking this is just another stupid kids cartoon, your wrong. Its got a dark atmosphere a nice art style to it and a great voice cast starring Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy and many others. This is a dark emotional show that is very nostalgic and deserves to be watched by everyone. Batman fan or not you'd be crazy not to like this show.
Here is a series so clearly aware of it's target audience yet not afraid to push the envelope. It boldly introduces complex themes and let's the characters duke it out in gorgeous art deco animation.
