The first episode was kind of boring, but slowly I'm getting reeled in. After watching "Grey Hour" I think I'm getting ever closer to becoming an addicted fan of this show.

This is the first TV show that I've been hooked on week after week in about a decade. I really hope that they go on to make a second season.

This show is fantastic! It is the first show I watch off my TIVO every time a new one is available. The episode where Echo was a rock star's bodyguard had a very weak climax, but every other one has been stellar! I hope Fox picks this up for a second season.

Joss Whedon is BACK!!!! The pilot has me sold. Great writing, awesome directing and a very intriguing storyline. I can't wait to see where it goes. really REALLY don't listen to the critics on this one. Dollhouse is a mystery, detective show, and sci fi all wrapped up in one. It feels like an expertly adapted comic book and it has some great actors and the girls are hot. Support the Whedon! I feel a strange paranoia that since the show already got moved from it's original Monday Night next to 24 slot, FOX might cut it. But i hope not. For those of us that are just plain old Tv fans, ugh. I can imagine Whedon backers might be into it, but an unbiased eye could not see right through this. Way to much information exposed for us to be intrigued. Way too many obvious logic jumps to be intelligent. Way too many dull dim-witted cliche characters to be exciting. Though one could see a lot of past Whedon shows in Dollhouse--Eliza Dushku, Amy Aker, and a set that looks strangely like Wolfram & Hart--there was very little of the wit and superb storytelling one typically associates with a Whedon enterprise in this first episode. However, if you're a Whedon fan you know not to count to count him out based soley on the first episode of a series. I'm holding out hope that audiences won't be dissapointed as Dollhouse develops.… Expand

This show is not only entertaining, but leaves you wanting to know more and more about what's going to hapen next. While it may have mixed reviews at the moment, the episodes keep getting more and more intense, surely it will get better feedback as the season moves forward

I immensely enjoyed every Whedon's show so far (Buffy, Angel, Firefly) and was looking forward to this but Dollhouse is really bad. Everything we like about Whedonverse (humor, witty dialogue, melodramatic emotions, ironic undercutting of those same emotions, meta-, auto- and other references, defamiliarization of the familiar genre...) is NOT to be found in this predictable C-grade show. The casting is horrible. I can understand that Miss Dushku is pleasant to look at and fun to be around, but she does not have the range to pull this off. This show needed someone like Amber Tamblyn for the multipersonality lead. Even worse are the über-cliched empty, other-blandly-good-looking-people: the obligatory British headmistress ("Execute a kill order? Good heavens!"), the soulful ex-cop that overcomes his doll-ism (it's like racism! and he's black! omg! the irony!) in the space of 20 minutes, the obsessed lantern-jawed agent or cop (or whatever), the small-time crook and the painfully unfunny tech-geek. The only semi-human character (like Tara from Buffy) is the cop's lonely neighbor who will (in a non-surprising twist) probably be revealed as a deep cover agent and/or a doll herself. The soft-porn opening credits and the main theme make me cringe every time I see/hear them. The only thing that remains thoroughly Whedonesque is the gargantuan gap between the ambition/pretention and the realization/skill/budget. I thought the pilot was bad/boring/cliched until I saw episodes 2 and 3. The whole thing plays like Pamela Anderson's VIP, which is really disappointing for a Wheadon show. I (figuratively) cried when they canceled Firefly - I will sigh with relief when they euthanize this awful mess. Do yourself a favor and avoid this. In the time of shows like Veronica Mars, Mad Men, True Blood and Generation Kill... this is not even grade B brainless fun, it's embarrassing for all involved.… Expand

Fantastic show that is only getting better episode after episode... reminds me of the early seasons (the good ones) of Alias, but a bit more twisted and interested.

I was looking forward to this show for weeks before it premiered, and had to sit a while after the second episode to decide if I'd been disappointed. There are some things in the writing which snag, and the overdone plot of "The Target" nearly quashed my interest - but the premise of the series brought me to watch the third, and as the plot has thickened, and Echo's off-mission personality quirked further, I've found myself growing more and more engrossed in the possibilities of the series. It seems odd to me that the strongest acting regularly comes from one-shot characters, but as the episodes pass, we begin to see more out of the main characters, as though their actors are coming to realize their characters more fully at the same time as the plot unveils them. At this point, the series is full of potential, with plot and character development that draws the audience into exploring its intrigues; as it progresses further, I look forward to seeing how it develops.… Expand

The latest drama from Joss Whedon shows a departure from his previous work. Less of the monster element of Buffy and more towards the 'Firefly/Serenity' style of drama, looking at human nature and the way people will treat each other when given power over them. An excellent cast centres around 'Buffy/Angel' alumni Eliza Dushka, who plays a Doll, one of the 'volunteers' chosen by a mysterious agency to have her mind wiped and to be given memories and a new persona, in order to deal with the tasks and assignments the company is hired for. While certainly more serious in tone than Buffy and more complex than Firefly, Joss Whedon has constructed a highly intriguing plot line that should acheive the same success as Buffy... if the general public can 'get' it.… Expand

The show is subtle and complex compared to the first seasons of Whedons earlier shows. Give it a chance, it's worth it.

I didn't expect the show to be so entertaining, but now i cannot stop watching it. Joss has done it again, and FOX should defiantly keep Dollhouse on air- for i know many who will continue to watch it!

The first few episodes are slow to build up, but it's definitely worth sticking with this show. It keeps improving with every episode. It's twisted, intriguing, and thoroughly entertaining.

This show is completely different from Whedon's Buffy and Angel shows but excellent nonetheless. You never know quite what to expect from week to week and as we are getting to know the characters more and more, the show itself is becoming rather intriguing. I really hope it won't get cancelled - just when it is getting interesting!

Gets more interesting with each episode. Good mix of episodic stories and overarching mystery.

This show has a very very exciting premise, but falls far short in terms of delivering. Eliza Dushku is a very one dimensional actress, and simply cannot carry a leading role like this. The support cast varies from solid to mediocre, and storytelling goes very up and down (with the familiar Whedonesque twists). Alan Tudyk's portrayal of Alpha is true class though, he performs brilliantly.

First few episodes are a tad formulaic, but the show hits it stride later on and throws up some very interesting storylines as well as an examination of the nature of identity and what it means in a world where personalities/memories can be made to order. Worthwhile

This show is amazing! I think that Whedon is a genius. His work in Dollhouse asks the audience to question and ponder intellectual concepts and facets of human nature. His work inspires us to think about slavery and free will, about identity and autonomy, about tragedy and fantasy. There is so much more here than beautiful actors, a cool set, action scenes, and someone losing their freedon. A good critic needs to dig deeper and consider the intriguing concept and overarching themes of the show. Dollhouse is a nuanced, intellectual, and fascinating show. The director's work and vision comes across clearly, and with every episode I have a deeper respect for this director's amazing work.… Expand

I love this show. Eliza Dushku is an amazing actress. The plott of Dollhouse is outstanding and keeps me hooked on every moment of the show.

This 2nd season has been brilliant. Which means it will get the chop.

First episode lacks the Whedon humor but promises of more in later episodes pushes this to a 10....Elisa is believable in a multitude of different roles. Again, is the public ready for something different? A bit of LeFemme Nikita and a dash of Firefly...good pairing with Terminator, SCC. Hopefully we'll see development of characters other than Echo....visually stunning!

Not equal (yet) to Whedon's last effort, Firefly, but the show has potential. I'm certainly enjoying it so far (3 episodes in), and I'm confident that it will to continue to grow and get better.

Bad TV show..I regret watching it and wasting time on it. Whedon should move on to something else.

The show keeps getting better. Granted the pilot wasn't great, but what pilot is? Exposition is a necessary evil in the beginning of any show, however, the plot and characters are improving noticeably with each show. Latest episode - Man on the Street - was extremely well done. I hope that people will give this show a chance.

Great show so far (through episode 7). Definitely a show that builds plot one block at a time. I think the nay-sayers who only watched the first one or two episodes should give the next few a try.

Great show!! This is from the guy that gave us Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity. Nevermind the critics, if you liked any of the shows I just mentioned you just have to watch this one. It's smartly written and great fun.

This is a real gutting from the creator of three shows I really loved. I'm not the biggest Eliza Dushku fan, but I think she does well playing supporting characters. She's just not up to snuff here. Way out of her league by trying to play several different personalities that are essentially her. If Joss Whedon's name wasn't attached to this, I would've stopped after 10 minutes of episode one. Amazing show. I saw a few ads but wasn't impressed. Randomly caught a bit of an episode and was hooked. This show is complex, different, and intelligent. Each episode pulls you further into the mysteries of the Dollhouse. AMAZING! Really a must see. Fox, please renew for a second season and give it some better marketing. This show is a gem!

It was slow at first, but with every episode, I'm liking it more and more.

What started out as a mediocre show has blossomed into an intriguing tale of ever-growing mystery.

I think the dollhouse explores a deep fear that lies in us all. Can people really be brainwashed and do whatever someone tellls them to? The storyline started off a little weak but has picked up tremendously over the last several weeks. I can't wait until everything gets revealed.

A fresh idea with great writing, this show is definitely not for the simple-minded. But a storyline so complex needs time to establish itself on a greater scale. Hopefully FOX will give it that time.

I gave up on this show half way through the first episode, I just couldn't get into it, but then after reading the reviews on here i decided to give it another try, by the end of the 2nd episode i was hooked, i'm now on episode seven and believe it to be easily one of the best shows on tv right now and it just keeps getting better every week, i won't doubt Joss Whedon again.

As brilliant as everything else Whedon comes up with :) His shows never fail to disappoint!

Everyone out there watch this show please it needs higher ratings and is amazingly thrilling that it will keep you excited. Also its cast are people who make their characters special and alive you just get amazed by their performances to a substantial level.!

It was a slow start, but I soon fell in love with this show. Joss Whedon is a genius and deserves a second season of Dollhouse.

One of the most underrated tv series out there.

Dragged it's heels at the start of the season and suffered a hit in numbers as a result, but those who stuck with it were rewarded as it hit the sweet spot between action and mystery about mid season. Episode 12 ended on more than one bombshell and it's recent renewal gives you are reason to get into it. Highly recommended.

I have to say that this show was a 'meh' until the last two episodes when it finally started the real story moving. I understand that we had to see a number of 'building' episodes to establish the basis for the Dollhouse, but they really didn't excite me. Now that the real story is going, I'm sold. Can't wait for next season.

Dollhouse, like all of Whedon's shows, gets better with time. The plot is intriguing and has gotten increasingly better over the first season. It is a great show and I recommend it to anyone!

Intelligent show that raises a lot of philosophical and psychological questions about humanity and technology. I actually started watching the show reluctantly when I had nothing else to do, and did not at all want to like it. However, I am hooked. What a fresh, new idea that's not full of drama and everyone being in love with everyone else. Unlike so many shows out there, there is definitely no 'cookie cutter' plot line - every episode keeps you guessing. (Of course some are stronger than others, but all shows are like that.) I really don't understand how people can say the show is uninteresting and shallow - on the contrary, I would say it is a show that actually asks the audience to consider moral predicaments. Perhaps that is too much for those who are used to watching American Idol and soaps?… Expand

This show bores me to tears. It's hard to believe Whedon was involved in this.

This show has really lived up to it's promise in the last few episodes; Whedon has made it possible for an audience to care for non-persons. Though the premise of the series didn't really appeal to me at first, I am definitly a fan now!

The only way I could give this a positive score is if the second season reveals that Dushku's character is actually a horrible actress and the real life Dushku is an incredible actress, acting like a horrible actress, who is acting like randomly-generated personalities. Bring back firefly.

This show is amazing! It starts off a little confusing, but it explains everything by the end - it seems that the people who gave low scores just based their score off of one episode. Ignore the haters - this show is awesome!

I'm beginning to thing the reviewers are out of touch. This is the second review I've done where there's a three point difference between their average and the viewers'. Dollhouse is a classic example of an intelligent TV show that the critics just don't get. Unfortunately, that's Joss Whedon's lot in life. The first few episodes of the first season were too busy with the episode arcs to do much with the season arc, but as soon as that kicked in, it became pretty fabulous. This is a more intricate and interesting premise than any other show I can think of has. The entire thing is a fascinating thought experiment.

It's not an entirely consistent effort, but when it's good? It's brilliant. Could occasionally be a little weirder, a little darker, but is generally as funny as you'd want.

I think Dollhouse is among the most exiting drama on air nowadays. Although I love my procedural/case of the week shows, Dollhouse transcends the genera and becomes something else, where the week's case takes the backseat and becomes a mere device to reveal yet another layer to this fantastic world. That being said, I wish that the lead was someone with better acting chops than Ms. Dushku who is fine in certain roles, but it is not really fair to ask her to pull off such a complex task.… Expand

What Dollhouse serves up week after week is the high-tech date rape of its attractive women, who are fed electronic roofies for sex they can't remember. Lest you think this show is written by bad people, they include token disapproval of what's happening. Then, more date-raping. Echo gets raped the most, although they are particularly brutal when they rape Sierra - no idea what that's about. Thankfully, America isn't buying it and the show has basically been canceled. Don't waste your Christmas season fighting to save a show that panders to the sadistic fantasies of its nerd-heavy audience.… Expand

Too early to tell if its good but if this wasn't a show brought by Joss Whedon I would not watch a second episode.

I was very pleased, after all the luke warm reviews I was not sure what to expect, but enjoyed it from start to finish and looking forward to next week.

This show is awful. The premise is bad, the execution is bad, the writing is bad, the acting is bad. The character motivations make no sense; what the hell is some holier-than-thou cop doing working for a human trafficking/prostitution ring that brainwashes women and turns them into living sex dolls? Every show with Whedon takes a while to fully develop, but after 2 episodes I am excited to see where this is going.

I think the pilot was very good and intriguing but the next show "Target" was just awesome. Eliza is playing a difficult role really well, and the cast is great in general.

Let's face it, anyone who's been a fan of Joss Whedon knows that critics are rarely nice with him. Yet fans still love his work. Dollhouse has many of the same weaknesses as his previous shows, but the strengths have been improved. Firstly, Joss Whedon's writing is perpetually stuck in the 1990's - which was impressive for Buffy in 1996, but in 2009 it's weak and immature. Some performances can be a little hollow - Harry Lennix does not seem to adapt well to Whedon's style, and performances from Reed Diamond and Dichen Lachmen are utterly forgettable - but Dushku herself, Olivia Williams, and Fran Kranz offer lifting performances. The plot development is a bit slow at first, but episodes 4 and 5 are noticeably better-written than the preceding episodes in terms of combining elements of the story like the mysterious Alpha, the FBI agent, and Echo's compounding sense of adaptability and identity. And Lastly, the set design marks Whedon's best production yet; I remember reading an article that Whedon trumped the number of episodes this season to afford more lavish environments, and it works. The show looks and feels like it belongs on a primetime network like Fox, even if it has the Friday night time slot of doom. For those who watched Firefly, you know where that show could have gone if given the chance, so given Dollhouse some time and it'll eventually live up to par.… Expand

Started off on the wrong foot, the episodes keep getting better and better. The writers and actresses started out just as confused as the audience and now hit their stride. I not that the critics who hated the show all had liberal papers, and blue-collar area critics like in Philadelphia usually loved the show. Also, many female critics loved the show. The most worthy season since Angel Season 1 for Joss. As it dominates the 18-34 demographic for dead Friday, it will be renewed.… Expand

So far, I'm into it. Dushku is great in this role. She pulls off the tough girl and the vulnerable girl at the same time very well. It is good to see Battlestar Galactica's Tahmoh Penikett working, as he was excellent on BSG. I hope this one keeps up its momentum.

Got off to a rocky start, but has shown marked improvement beginning with episode 4. Should again show improvement once series creator Whedon receives the reigns from Fox at episode 6.

Dollhouse began with a rough start but, as previously stated, it just keeps getting better and better as Josh Whedon is figuring out what to do with the show.

It's a little frantic in the first episode or two, but it seems to roll back to a more reasonable pace once things get started and the viewers all know mostly what's going on. Eliza Dushku delivers a surprisingly diverse performance as Echo, given that her character varies in sometimes drastic ways from show to show. The fight scenes have been particularly well-done given that most fight scenes done by models have been pretty poor (I'm looking at you, Ultraviolet). In Dollhouse, they actually seem downright believable. I miss Whedon's quirky sense of humor, but the show seems to hold a certain charm, which charm is partially based around the fact that you aren't quite sure if what's going on is okay or not. It's a bold step, not giving the viewer a certainty that their protagonist is 100% a good guy, but I think it feels somehow more authentic that way.… Expand

I find Mrs. Dushku's constant change in personalities, and the up beat 'Heroes' like suspense, creates a refreshing since of action in a TV Series as well as an interesting plot line. I'm interested to see where the writers take the series.

Very good...took a while to warm up, but has now finally hit its stride. Was just enjoyable, is now extremely compelling. Takes tradition SciFi conceits and delves into them with pop sensibility, fun action, and deep philosophical implications. What is reality? What is individuality? What is personality? This show asks it all. Extremely enjoyable.

This show has just gone from interesting to great. Finally the ideas that were scattered are coming together. I love the direction where this is going.

I think its really lame that dollhouse uses the same exact scene (Episode 1. 49:36) as 24 does (Season 7. Episode 9. 31:60) ...or is it a well known location...i dont think so.

Its difficult to judge, based solely on its own merit, because the bar has been raised so high by previous Whedon shows. Some thought it would be this glorious, perfect show of messianic proportions that would take us by the hand and lead us to the television equivalent of the promise land. Its not. But that doesn't mean its a bad show. Its formula breaks away from Joss' previous endeavors, and even its humor, something for which Whedon is famous, feels different. Again, not bad, but different. The good news is that while I couldnt help feeling some disappointment with the first episode, the show has continued to improve with each coming week. Introducing interesting character arcs, unexpected twists, and a surprising level of depth in what first appeared a rather shallow concept. If people can get past what they think it should have been or hoped it would be, they'll find a compelling show that takes new directions none of us Whedonites saw coming. An unfortunate misstep by Joss Whedon. Too populated by glib beautiful people to be believable as a human experience (even a pretend-world human experience), too poorly written and trite to be interesting. Superficial but not tasty enough to be mind candy, guilty but not a pleasure.

Season 1 is shaping up to be awesome. I can't wait to see what is yet to come.

You never know what will happen next. I love seeing how the actors portray different characters every show. As the show progresses many of the original questions are answered and more are raised. Every show is different and that makes it really exciting! I am really excited about the upcoming murder mystery!

This show had a rough start with it's generic made for TV cheese factor (episode three had to be the worst!), but it has definitely made a good recovery recently. Now we are seeing more Whedon style in the character development and in the action.

A slow start, but as the episodes have progressed it has become more compelling to watch and is now one of my preferred choices. Hopefully Fox will allow this series to develop further.

Watch the episode "Needs" and this show is starting to hit its stride! I've also noticed the ratings here seem to be skewed: the reviews from critics are all from when the show started (and was trying to find its feet). They should be updated to reflect the better quality.

Intriguing concept with good and evil almost fairly represented, swift action without too much gore, and good looking but not perfect people who don't have a patch on Barbie, and yet the storytelling manages to make me watch this show every week. I'd never heard of Joss Whedon until Serenity, so I'm not on the Firefly or Buffy (didn't watch it) bandwagon.

A awesome show that leaves me in suspense and wondering about what is going to happen in every episode. Just the idea of good vs evil and who is good and who is evil makes this series something i would continue to watch.

Dollhouse is amazing. The first several episodes are lackluster, but there is the sense of mystery and building tension. By episode 6 of season 1 the plot arc begins to steam ahead. By the end of the first season, I'm left with no doubts that we're witnessing Joss Whedons best story to date.

Dollhouse has been much like many great shows. It started out as sort of medium, but is now what I'd call awesome. I love the various layers, the potential for analysis... it's just great.

Still gaining maturity every week; the most recent episode, revealing Alpha, had two huge surprises. Joss is all over this series, and it shows. Can't wait to see what comes next.
