  • Summary: In the small town of Dillon, Texas, football is everything. The team to beat is the Panthers, who are coached by newbie Eric Taylor. Coming back after winning the State Championship, the Panthers will need all the help they can get once the next football season arrives, amidst all the personal dramas and injuries.

This series is based on the book and movie Friday Night Lights. Season two of Friday Night Lights was cut from twenty two to just fifteen completed episodes because of the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. In order to save the show and produce a new season, DirecTV stepped up and will air new episodes of season three on DirecTV's "The 101" during the fall, and then they will premiere during the winter on NBC. Both seasons can be found on DVD, as well as repeats on Bravo.

Without a doubt, Friday Night Lights is one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. The story is so well done and realistic that it makes you feel as if all these characters are real people who you could actually visit if you went to this small town in Texas. I highly recommend Friday Night Lights for anybody who is a fan of good TV. Season 2 is just as good as the first season but adds increasing layers of depth to the characters we know and love. Expand
  2. When I first watched Friday Night Lights second season I found it difficult to understand why it had received so much criticism with some fans going as far as to say new viewers should skip it entirely. Judged as a piece of standalone drama much of it is actually very good with arguably improved performances from its first year on air and some genuinely interesting story-lines.

Having since seen the show through to its conclusion however I have certainly lowered my opinion of this second season. The problem is simply that many of the plots, in particular the one involving Landry and Tyra, just aren't quite in keeping with its usual slow burning nature and as a result the emotional payoff Friday Night Lights is often capable of just isn't there. I wouldn't go as far as to recommend skipping it but there was certainly much better to come in future seasons.
