This is a well-written series that leaves you wanting more after each episode. Tatiana Maslany does an impressive job performing the many roles of the clone sisters. Definitely worth watching!
Amazing TV show. Quite difficult to understand in the first episodes but yeah... Tatiana Maslany has done such a great job... Unbelievable that she could play all those caracters. I have been quite amazed when she was playing a character that was supposed to play another character because we know that it is not completely the second character (it soudns complicated and it is !). I love the mystery around each characters. Bluffing.I would recommend it to everybody!
Orphan Black begins with a solid, well-constructed, one-hour pilot that breezily introduces the characters and the show's conceit. It does allow some questions to linger, but it won't leave viewers scratching their heads in confusion, an important distinction and a balance not all genre shows are capable of getting right.
It's just as ridiculous as it sounds, chockablock with clichés, predictable exposition (two taps of the keyboard and entire histories are revealed) and some fairly whacked-out plot twists. But it doesn't matter because Orphan Black isn't so much about plot as it is performance, and as the series continues, the performances are pretty astonishing.
The settings never seem authentic for the Big Apple, and accents veer like partygoers after last call.... Still, Maslany shows skill in her many alternate guises, and the show has a dark sense of humor.
Other than enjoying Maslany in multiple characters, wigs and accents, there’s nothing so distinctive about the plot as to provide an incentive to hang around long enough to sort out all the gory details regarding who might want to eliminate them.
A fantastic tv show! Would defiantly recommend to all my friends. Can not wait for the next episodes I have just watched all of the three seasons in a binge watchathon.
Interesting but flawed premise betrayed by very poor character development. The show is all about science, specifically biology and chemistry, but as is typical with bad writing, to create some form of drama, every scientist is evil, delusional, or a total f*up. You know... because like most of hollywood drivel, smart people are actually the dummies of society. And I dont mean just the bad guy scientists, even the good ones make monumental mistakes every season meanwhile all the uneducated normal people who didnt spend a day using their brain are apparently brilliant and can do no wrong. It is insulting and I am tired of it. Minus 3 points for that insulting portrayal.
The idea of this show is that human clones were made by curious scientists but the experiment got hijacked by the government and other organization for profit or weapons or whatever. Although they do a good job with the science as the show plays out, the glaring problem is that none of the organization have any good reason for anything they do. All of the things that drive them can be done without the clones or with new ones and it would be practically trivial to repeat the clone experiment as many times as they want. To force engagement from the clones, they were (as you might already guess), given health problems... yea its cheesy. But lets suspend our brains for a minute.
For the most part, the actor for the female clone does a good job playing so many parts, in fact she is impressive even if some of the characters are not very strong and despite a few minor hiccups here and there. For instance, there were a scene where an English accent was mixed up with Australian but honestly I thought it made for a good laugh. The show does not always take itself seriously which help relax some of the blunders and plot holes.
Give it a shot but be warned if you are a nerd or science geek you will notice the insulting tone. Everyone else wont care and will likely enjoy the show.
Waste of time, excluding that your a young girl CHAV Maybe then you might enjoy this chic flic and resolve those issues by the end of this series. Bleh, government conspiracy through cloning, so the idenity of some wannabe criminal dealer mother can get her rocks off. Badly acted, produced you would have expected this to be anywhere else but the BBC. Burrowing heavily on idea's from other good TV resulting in this preteen'der series. I won't be continuing this from the pilot it has no interest.
Orphan black is a show where characters constantly break character and say lot of things like:
“Were you followed?”
“Do you have any idea who these people are?”
“You have no idea what is really going on, do you?”
“I don’t want to be a part of this”
This is to create tension and suspense, how sinister…how very sinister indeed.
Writing in poor, characters are given motivations which are convoluted. I mean if you found out that there are half a dozen individuals in the world who are your exact replica, the normal human response would be to find out what the hell is going on, that ought to be motivation enough, not in this show. There are smart Directors and then there are Bad Directors, smart ones know what to let the Audience see and the parts that you can and must skip over. For instance, let’s say that somebody is shot in a car, now unless you are really anal about such things you might not wonder too much about what happened to all the blood (when you see the Heroin drive the same car later). An intelligent Director would know how not to let that thought enter the head of a viewer. Here’s what a Dumb Director would do, he’ll show the Heroin break into a car wash in the middle of the night, use all the equipment, get the car waxed and expect the viewer not to bat an eyelid. Care to venture a guess what kind of a Director made Orphan Black?
Oh Yes, the acting is bad too.
Having said all that, if you are fan of shows like Fringe, Alias & Other shows on the lines of what J.J Abrams does I hate them, barring early Seasons of Lost you are going to like Orphan Black.
