  1. It's hard to imagine reinventing the concept of the doctor show. But in a way, that's what Private Practice sets out to do in its new-look second season Wednesday--and it doesn't do a bad job.

Rhimes (who co-wrote the premiere with Marti Noxon) weaves the dense web of life-or-death medicine and romantic whimsy well enough, and the program is so slickly written and performed it's easy to overlook the familiar patterns that are emerging; still, it would behoove both the characters and show to take a deep breath and find the key players some kind of extracurricular hobby--even if that just means lusting after strangers, perhaps, instead of co-workers.

Creator Shonda Rhimes promised deeper, sharper medical stories this season to tether this show to the ground, and tonight Private Practice delivers those - even if the so-called "moral gray" area of each feels contrived.

I'm still waiting for this overqualified cast to get material that allows them to act like grown-ups as opposed to squabbling, whiny, gossipy, neurotic, sex-obsessed nimrods.

Though it’s better, Private Practice is not good enough.

Practice is still terrible, and I'm still not ready to give up.

The combined writing talents of creator Shonda Rhimes and Buffy the Vampire Slayer mainstay Marti Noxon cannot resuscitate the ailing subplots now infecting the Oceanside Wellness medical practice.

The show remains a poorly conceived piece of work that throws a whole mess of relationship and medical cliches at us and hopes for the best.

After nine tepid episodes (and a subpar season of Grey's) last year, there's less reason than ever to care about the dramedies and quirky cases of sexy doctors at a ritzy "wellness center," and the return episode trudges along like a 44-min. chore.

Last season of Private Practice was pathetic. But in the second season premiere of the show, it proved they aren't trying to be Grey's Anatomy, and shouldn't. They are they're own show, and it's not great but it's good, and good is good enough for me. Full Review »

I enjoy this show very much. The only thing that throws me off is the fact that it five minutes too long. If it's an hour show leave it as an hour show don't add five minutes to the end. It's just plain annoying. Full Review »
