  1. If you're looking for a smart, brain-massaging sitcom, watch NBC's Thursday night lineup. If you're just seeking a few (sometimes cheap) laughs, Sherri provides.
  2. Lifetime busts out a new sitcom Monday night, and while Sherri isn't an instant classic, it should spark more than a few "Right on, sister" responses from the Lifetime audience.

So while Sherri doesn't rock any better than "Rita" does, for Lifetime, that's probably enough.

The show is too close to a comedy routine to be successful, although future episodes may feel less practiced. But whether or not the show makes it, one thing is clear: Sherri Shepherd is a star. An original.

Shepherd is the star, and she does a good job of, er, Shepherding the show and making her character very likeable and accessable. I only wish the women characters were deliberately funny, instead of being accidentally funny from being stupid.
  6. Sherri is a slip of a comedy, an appetizer yearning to be the main course.
  7. Shepherd is appealing and rattles off a few good zingers. But viewers will find more wit and spark during The View's ''Hot Topics'' than in this generic comedy.
  8. Between Sherri's grouchy father, adorable son and hapless ex, all the stereotypes seem to be running on full steam. It's a less-than-stellar debut, but a body set in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force, and it's hard to imagine the outside force that's going to slow Sherri Shepherd down any time soon.
  9. What's sad about Sherri--other than the fact that her ex, Kevin, is played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who was brought up better than this by Cliff and Clair Huxtable--is that while it's supposedly a show about a woman moving on after a divorce, it's being made by a woman who so clearly hasn't.

A ridiculous attempt at mainstream sitcoms; and that's saying a mouthful when you consider the quality of mainstream sitcoms, or lack thereof. Sherri Shepherd is painful to watch as she attempt to deliver sassy one-line 'zingers' in hopes of eliciting side-aching belly laughs from what the show's producers expect to be wide-eyed, adoring female viewers. It's a swing and a miss and sadly I can't even recommend a "check it out for yourself" suggestion. Full Review »
