With a shorter to-do list and more ruthless editing--far too much time is spent in close-ups on the hosts--Showville could be as good in fact as it is in theory.

It could easily be mean and cynical, but manages to avoid both fatal pitfalls because the finalists are so genuinely enthusiastic and so blissfully uncomprehending of their shortcomings.

Showville is far more upbeat and encouraging than that series ["Small Town Security"], and its shift in location from week to week keeps things fresh.

It’s a well-meaning, good-humored, hospitable hour of television, reminiscent of the nascent days of cable reality shows in the early 2000s, before everyone figured out that ratings success meant being nasty, famous and selfish.

Showville came to my town and I was not happy with how they portrayed it. They disregarded some of the best talent our town has because it didn't fit with the demographic they are trying to please. The hosts also had the gal to "coach" the people that they did select on what/how to perform. I thought this was ridiculous because it no longer became the contestants own performance but one that they were forced to perform. You could tell that one of the contestants was uncomfortable with what he was coached to do.

Being a show about "Small town USA" there was very little about our town (or other towns on other episodes). They should have put more focus on the towns they are visiting rather than giving the extremely annoying and unfunny hosts so much screen time. There is a huge opportunity to show off these towns in greater detail letting their audience learn more about them.

I thought the camera work was very poor. Shots were exposed incorrectly and most of it just looked bad. Maybe since this is season one they had to do it as cheaply as possible so if this show manages to catch on, maybe they can hire camera operators that know what they are doing.
