"Sons & Daughters" is one of those shows that make you laugh so hard, it'll feel like your kidney is going to blow up. Sadly, it may not be around for very long, as it has been getting low ratings (similar to "Arrested Development"). What intrigues me the most is that all of the issues that the familes in this comedy are relatable to real life, in our own families, which keeps me tuned in. Give "Sons" a chance. This comedy is "to-die-for" (literally). Expand

Ick. Made by people who wanted to ape Arrested Development but didn't have the talent. Just nasty and forced.

being different doesnt make it good. If you do not want to rely on good writers, at least do so in excellent improvisators and do something to set an environment where good improvs are gonna flow. This has nothing going on for it, except that it is different and it can thus attract all those that feel need to show the world how unique they are by praising whatever seems unique..

I'll give it this much--it's 5 times better than Free Ride. As for the obvious Arrested D comparisons--well, they're obvious. This one even has the sane guy trying to hold the nutty family together. Grampa Wojo from Barney Miller is the unexpected emotional core--he steals the show from the Steve Carrell-lite star. Overall, a little creaky, but has potential. One irritation---why must there be 26 people in the frame at all times? Expand

I think this show funny, sad and so realistic. Finally there is something on television to relate to and is so entertaining.

This show was something I looked forward to each week (the few that it was on). Why do the intelligent shows fail so fast?

Appallingly unfunny. Apparently you need talent to pull off a show like The Office or Arrested D.

I just think this show is the best new show on tv. It's funny, serious, deals with real situations, and those kids are so cute!

Show sucked. Up against The Unit, doesn't have a prayer. Actually, pretty much has no prayer, regardless of what it's up against.

After reading an enthusiastic review from my favorite TV critic, my friend and I downloaded the pilot. We made it about seven minutes in before turning it off....... Honestly, take the improv of Curb Your Enthusiasm, the awkward pauses of The Office, the cinematography of Arrested Development. Mix them in a bowl. Now take out the humor. You have Sons and Daughters.

Love it and others apparently agree. This show can only get better. Improv characters usually grow and build and get funnier along the way. Ratings will come as those who find and like the show will definitly stick around for more. The haters can watch another Doc show or whatever.

this show had me laughing out loud a few times. there are some rough patches, but the characters are pretty stellar. The girl with teh braces kills me... worth checking out, if you don't mind improv-style jokiness.

Sadly, this show blows, I watched the first 5 minutes and hated it, and that's a killer since I know folks who worked on it. It's a very poor attempt at improvisation comedy, which I don't particularly like to begin with, but at least Arrested Development was well done, this looked like a kid with a brand new video camera and the enthusiasm that comes with a new toy, got cut lose by CBS to do whatever he wanted and it got spectacularly out of control in a bad way. Refreshingly funny and touching at times. The improv is seamless and characters more humanly developed than the "Arrested Development" clan. I could only hope that the viewing public catches onto this gem and ABC picks up a full season.

This show aimed squarely at 'Arrested Development' and missed by a mile. Not even worth the 22 minutes it took to watch a Tivo'd episode.

  1. It's very well-acted and meanwhile, when it can stand it, kind of tender, although it's far more interested in "Curb"-like moments of uncomfortable confrontation.
  2. 30
The improvised dialogue is sometimes smart, but it often leads to scenes where the main characters repeat their intentions over and over again -- you know, like in a really bad improv class.
  3. Definitely worth your time.
