Jul 27, 2013This is a vanity project by Eugene Wesley "Rod" Roddenberry Jr. Rod doesn't miss an opportunity to appear on screen, and re-states his motivations multiple times throughout the program. Not content to be a mere narrator providing exposition, he seems to appear on an average of every third cut in order to explain "how he didn't get it" and "how much his dad meant to people". You are not permitted to forget that Rod is there, as interviews with other people often includes him in the shot either side-by-side or over Rod's shoulder. The program also uses previous Star Trek specials occasionally with the added benefit of Rod's reactions, along with clips of shows past with analysis by Rod that mirrors comments made previously by others.
In short, there is little new material here which is made less compelling by the insistence of Rod's presence whenever possible. This show could easily have been under an hour using the same clips of previous specials along with some new interviews for added freshness but the frequent use of the "look at me I'm Gene Roddenberry's son!" makes this "documentary" almost unwatchable.… Expand
