All told, it’s a surprisingly good time. The Garfield Movie may be as disposable as one of those numbered paperbacks that ex-kids of a certain age may fondly recall from their Scholastic book orders, but it approximates their sense of fun, too.
In trying to reinvent the lazy feline for modern kids, the filmmakers have lost track of the comedic tone that has helped these simple, gag-driven stories endure for decades.

I took my son to see this and it was funny and adorable I recommend it to anyone who loves the traditional Garfield the cat cartoons and comics. The voice actors and ensemble made it really fun and the family dynamics between Garfield and Otie within the centering of his adoption are heartwarming. It was one of the top family animated movies I've seen in a while.

It’s not that it’s unfunny or completely without charm: it’s that the script feels like an abandoned The Secret Life of Pets sequel into which Garfield has been crowbarred.
Long before the film reaches its action-packed, train-based climax, however, adults will be questioning if its three writers have so much as seen an actual Garfield comic strip, given how removed their work feels from its activity-averse inspiration.
Made for an audience mostly too young to have held the funny pages of a newspaper, it’s a madcap heist flick that feels like someone grabbed a random screenplay and scrawled “Garfield” at the top.
It’s a Garfield movie that strangely doesn’t feel as if Garfield as we know him is really there at all.

The Garfield Movie is an entertaining animated film about a lovable tabby cat and his adventures. I like funny movies and this one definitely falls into that category. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt! This film isn't all jokes though; there are many heartwarming moments as well.
This film starts out by making sure the audience knows just how much Garfield (Chris Pratt) loves Italian food. While eating his morning snack, he begins to tell the story of how he met his owner Jon (Nicholas Hoult) after his own father Vic (Samuel L Jackson) seemingly abandons him. Jon takes Garfield in, and from there he has quite the luxurious life; he gets to sit around all day eating and watching cat videos on TV with his buddies. Unsuspectingly, Garfield is taken from his normal routine and forced to adjust to a world he is not prepared for. On this new journey, Garfield meets lots of new people and learns many new life lessons. With the help of his new friends and his dad, Garfield learns to be independent. Garfield eventually makes his way home to a new normal that he helps create.
The Garfield Movie is an animated film that personifies everything from ordinary house pets to farm animals. The animation is very well done and the colors used are an iconic part of what makes Garfield, Garfield. The music used throughout this film really helps set the vibe at crucial moments, such as when Italian music plays at the local Italian restaurant and familiar "danger" music plays during action scenes. My favorite character is Garfield because he is hilarious, loves Italian food, and hates Mondays! The selection of voice actors for each character is also spot on. When Roland the dog (Brett Goldstein) fakes a British accent to make Jinx (Hannah Waddingham) more comfortable, then switches back to his New York accent at the end, the talent of this voice actor really shines through.
The film's message is that you should never judge others without knowing their full story. You may think that you know how something happened, but it's important to get all the information. This message is successfully delivered through the development of Garfield's relationship with his father. Note that this film does contain some violence; although delivered in a funny way, some parents may be uncomfortable with their kids watching such aggressive behavior.
I give The Garfield Movie 5 out of 5 stars, and recommend it for ages 5 to 18, plus adults. It is available exclusively in movie theaters beginning May 24, 2024. Be sure to check it out. By Audrey L., KIDS FIRST!

A thoroughly mediocre movie.
The animation is good (not great), the animals are mostly cute, and the voice acting is mostly OK/good (e.g., Ving Rhames is particularly good as a bull; Samuel L Jackson pleasantly warm as the dad). Chris Pratt really doesn't bring anything to the role, though I doubt little kids who aren't aware of Lorenzo Music or Bill Murray will mind.
I was not prepared for how much an action / heist film that it would be. It does an adequate job of that, but pretty unexciting. Most worrisome, it is more cute than funny. At least it's not unpleasant.
A mildly diverting film for those who love Garfield and/or cats in general. Everyone else can pass.

A new adventure of the pasta-loving cat is what hits theaters this week. The new Garfield animated film is a film that is designed only for the youngest members of the family, with childish humor and a truly harmless adventure for everyone. It is a correct-animated film that does not know how to take advantage of the qualities of a character who has much more grace than what is given to him in this film. If we take into account that the adult audience will also see this film, it is precisely that audience that is left well separated from the final result. A film that is difficult to connect with and halfway through you start to get bored, even though it is a fairly short film and fast in events, but it is very designed for the little ones, it is difficult for the older ones to get hooked on the story. Garfield works because he is a fun character, but he still doesn't manage to have his best adventure on screen, unlike Odie, who incredibly has more brilliant moments in the film without saying a single word. A film designed to fulfill and generate quick and easy money, but as a new proposal that comes to give us something more refreshing from our beloved cat, this is definitely not the best option. In any case, it has fun moments and such a positive and friendly story that at least you leave with a feeling of affection and positivity towards the world. A film for the little ones in the house and a time of entertainment, once again enjoying a character that continues to accompany generations for decades.
