There is no mistaking that this is a bromedy. But this is a smart bromedy. Ladies, don’t be afraid to watch. Out of the gate, Leary creates characters that are identifiable and likable.

This is still not conventional TV, but season three gets closer, and that’s not an entirely bad thing. The cringe ratio is down--slightly--and characters begin to emerge in unexpected ways.

It’s a brave, and at times uneven, experiment. It’s also a reminder of a time when television was a much simpler and campier place.

It’s sweet but not syrupy. The pilot is so beautifully written and acted that it’s difficult to offer any kind of resistance, flaws and all.

It’s sometimes gripping, the acting is good, and for many it will seem fresh.

The first episode feels like a trial run. The second episode, which looks at the idea of fantasy, feels less disjointed.... Those moments when we see what a thousand people can create together are surprisingly inspiring.

Lilley’s writing is sharp and funny. He has an uncanny insight into high school. But the story is slow to unfold, and after two or three episodes, the premise feels stretched as tightly as Lilley trying to squeeze into Ja’mie’s school uniform.

Looking isn’t just disappointing, it’s infuriating. Looking offers one hopelessly out-of-date idea about gay life after another.... All of that said, Looking is still a unique moment in gay television.
